Crashlanded is buzzing merrily along. Chapter three is written, revised and tightened, ahead of schedule. At this rate I might have a whole semi-polished novel by, uh... multiply out the brackets, flip the equation upside down, add two Hydrogen atoms, simmer for fifteen minutes... May of next year? Yeah. Lets be optimistic. May of next year.

Crashlanded - segment from the end of chapter 3
As I was giving Ester another round of pain relief and bandaging over the weeping mess that used to be her right eye, Aster’s face appeared on the dim screen.
“Where is everyone?” It wasn’t a demand, but it rubbed me the wrong way anyway. I’d ordered the ten worst injured people to sleep, including Ester, in the hope they’d heal. That meant seventeen people off on hope missions.
“I gave them jobs.” Mom you would not have liked my tone of voice, but it just fell out of me. I needed sleep too.
“Smart.” Aster didn’t seem surprised. Just tired. “The Captain was right, we got hit by a solar storm. There’s another one due any second now, but I don’t know what effect the atmosphere of the planet will have. It’s going to make a complete mess of any attempts to communicate with anywhere though, and anyone coming to our rescue will get hit too.”
“So?” I asked, not really seeing her point. I’m such a bitch when I’ve had a near death experience and lost friends.
“So I thought you’d appreciate having all the information. The ship will never fly again, and nobody can get to us to save us. The atmosphere and the rainfall make me think maybe there was a terraforming effort here, but if there was it’s long since been abandoned. The solar panels can probably be re-purposed into a solar farm to give us the basics, but at some point we’ll have to make a choice. Even if we make it a few years, stuff like fabric is going to wear out eventually and unless we have cotton seeds--”
“Choice is a dirty word.” I don’t know why I said it. I just did. I didn’t want to think about how we were going to move the solar panels, or if we’d have to harvest cotton with our bare hands and die of sicknesses we had no way to treat. I didn’t want any of it.
“Yeah, I know.” Bless Aster. Patience of a saint too. “I’m going to see if I can force the galley doors open and get us some proper rations. Rose and Marianne are trying main stores now. We have about eleven hours of backup power before we have to start engaging in some proper botching to make things work so…” Aster let the statement hang.
“So we should stop using up power for comms and go do.”
