Hawthorn (Crataegus)
Plant of the Day
Wednesday 4 June 2025
A native deciduous tree in the U.K. Crataegus monogyna (hawthorn, hedgerow thorn, may) can be pruned to form formal hedges or grown to create rounded headed trees which resemble clouds when in bloom. This species is popular with pollinators in flower and birds later in the season for the red, edible berries.
