The crawling claw -- Ed Greenwood’s full page “Dragon Bestiary” entry in Dragon magazine 32, December 1979, introduces stats and explains how this necromantic servant is created and controlled, how it fights, and what tasks it can perform. If I’m reading the initials in the corner correctly, Ed may have illustrated this himself. The crawling claw still appears in the 5e Monster Manual with minor changes.

Crawling Crawl
On the left, a 5-8 foot tall (1.5-2.5 m) demon. They're telepathic, change their fur color to show thier mood, and turn invisible if you're into that. They're also surprisingly chill unless provoked. Unlike most demons they don't really get much pleasure in bullying the weak without reason, and would rather just be left alone to do thier thing and draft dodge. Mostly just hate authority figures, which I feel most of us can get behind.
On the right, the sentient hand of a murderer, haunted by its old soul and following orders. Able to do whatever a hand can do, so long as it doesn't need sight. Maybe get it a glove first.
