Talking about what many stay silent about
There's a state you enter when you sit down to play—and inside, there's complete silence. Not fear, not laziness. Emptiness. Hands on the keyboard, an endless empty lot before your eyes, all the tools, the entire Gallery at your disposal… and in your head — white noise.
This isn't a creative block. This is burnout. When what used to bring joy and was an escape from reality becomes an insurmountable task itself. When placing every new wall feels like dragging a concrete block.
And it would be fine if it lasted an hour. But what if it's days? You log into Tumblr, see streams of beautiful screenshots, and that internal silence just turns into a deafening wall?
I don't have a universal recipe. But I know the first step is to say it out loud. Not to hide behind "everything's fine" smiles. To admit: yes, today, I'm burned out. And that's okay.
Oh, and the second step—giving yourself permission not to create. To sit and just play. Without goals. Without screenshots. Without thoughts about the blog. To zone out, to watch your Sim make scrambled eggs for the sixth time. And let that be the only "achievement" of the day.
Have you ever been hit by this wave of apathetic emptiness? How did you find your way out? Maybe together we can find more ways to just… exhale.
A little doodle of my favorite band! Really wish I had more time to draw and actually get better at it 🦊
unless you want it to be, social media is not supposed to be the main artwork.
i’ve started a new project called verdant hearth consulting for working artists who dislike or struggle with maintaining a multi-platform social media presence.
i offer social reset intensives: one-on-one strategy sessions where we clear out the noise, pick the platforms that actually fit your life, and rebuild a gentle, sustainable rhythm that supports your art instead of smothering it.
we focus on:
simplifying your platform mix
designing low-pressure posting routines
setting up light systems you can actually keep up with
keeping your online presence aligned with your real creative practice
this is consulting for artists who are tired of feeling behind and want a calmer way to exist online.
if that sounds like you, reach out, and i'll send you the intake form.
Just following off the ask about reading percentile dice, Play groups i've been part of over the past couple of years have tended to go for two different coloured dice so that you can always read what your 10s die is and what your 0-9 die is. Feels pretty grokkable for players and GMs alike, and you can usually borrow a d10 of a different colour from another party member if need be.
Yep, this is another way to do it. In fact, I think this is the way we did it back when I was a kid and we were not as honorable about our die rolls as we are now (a lot of 69s became 96s).
what colours does forcing an opponent to discard a single card of your choice without a reveal fall into? my gut says black 1, red 2 and a tie between blue and white as the 3rd but by the looks of a few questions, it seems R&D sees it as a non-red ability despite it being in a similar resource denial vein to land destruction, which is a red primary?
It is a different resource being denied so I argue it does not count as similar.
RE: gif vs. jif: in the festive season, do you exchange jifts, and the jather around the table playing james? perhaps drinking a jimlet? (I joke. English is the dumpter fire of linguistic consistency. you keep doing you.) looking forward to new tabletop eps on YT. It's a fave, but I can't justify a subscription for it alone & feels like it'd be tacitly approving of the stuff that's gone on over your heads
I appreciate your support very much. Play more games!
Why I dont do Commissions anymore
honestly?? creating art for other people has been sucking the soul out of me. like I literally have no time or energy left for my own stuff. and on social media it’s always this weird pressure like “oh the artist will finish my piece in 2 weeks… or 4… or whenever” as if we’re machines running on deadlines no one even asked us about. everything has to be FAST or people get weird about it.
I’m so done with that. if my art wants to be slow, then it can be slow as hell. that’s how it actually turns out good anyway.
and I’m NEVER doing “promised art” again. ever. had a friend basically force me to finish something I drew for FREE and like??? no. absolutely not. I was literally just gifting stuff without thinking and somehow it turned into expectations I never agreed to.
and god the experiences I’ve had… that whole “you have to work no matter what” mindset? garbage. my device broke, I couldn’t finish anything, I had no money to replace it, and people still couldn’t just. wait. they acted like I owed them something when I was barely keeping it together.
so yeah. that’s why I don’t do commissions anymore. I’m choosing peace.
thanks for listening to my little rant. 💛
