Creative Influence

We are all influenced by what is going on around us and we may or may not be aware that we are experiencing something that is creative and moving into our brains. We may draw creatively from our experiences, artists, culture, or anything that is outside one’s self. “Creativity is therefore influenced by the problems and issues in your life”. 

It is not specifically influenced by environment, although ideas can materialise from anything. Possessing no specific pathways, there can also be sensory inspirations, and creative influence is pieced together from many factors along these lines. References may stem from the visual, such as paintings, even literature, to something we hear, as in a piece of music.

Research has found that it is possible that “creative ideas could be limited by recently activated knowledge”. It is important to keep our minds open to creativity as it can spark anyone at anytime. If you find it difficult to get into your creative zone writer Shalini Saxena recommends having a drink, going for a walk, or going to other countries, as some ways to generate new stimuli. John Cleese reminds us “it takes time to get into your creative mode. That you must realise that it will take time to achieve something truly original and creative”.

Creative Influence

Creative influence can be diverse and described as one creative works and/or creative individual, affected and/or influenced by another creative work and/or creative individual. This can be analysed by a number of significant similarities between the works or one artwork to another, and/or by one artist to another artist (Hassan 1955, pp.66-68). Barker (2012, p.206), describes it as a mash-up of creative ideas. ‘Air Desert’, uses the same subject or landscape to create alternate versions of the image through the use of various tones, colours and textures, to reflect the illusion of various realities in time and space. This artwork has many influences and similarities from other historical periods of art history.
