Winged cosmic creature Ryland, and deep bloody sea creature Simon.
If simon gets to have a bunch of cool abilities and stuff than so does ryland. Turns him into bird…. Hmm… that makes me think . You can actually make some pretty good parallells with that. Somthing about cosmic hope and horror. Birds and fish. One above one below. …
He has barn owl wings btw. Idk i thought it's fitting. silly lil owl man.

At first i was thinking of making him more ghost like (but not literally dead) in that he isnt affected by gravity (can float or stand anywhere) and could just, survive in space vacuum. Like some kind of entity that isnt affected by the laws of the universe or somthing… he could survive any pressure or atmosphere, eat anything maybe or not idk. But basically make him the most adaptable creature in space. Im a fan of him having like a barely visible halo
Maybe he can do all that, AND he has wings, because that makes him even more ethereal. Imagine him , free and happy, with a smile that Literally brightens the room, flying unrestrained around in space. Nothing holding him back. An infinite expanse he can fly through worryless.
Of course give him a bunch of bird and eridian instincts to season it a lil. Classic ruffling of feathers when scared or exited. being an owl man does give him very good directional hearing. this probably means i need to give him mobile ears, or ears that can move, so that he can better figure out where the sound came from ,or even a very mobile neck. one that can turn around not completely but a whole lot more than a normal persons neck. and nigh vision, but eh. he is very silent when he needs to be(cuz owl). hell makes a lot of noises otherwise . When startled his wings spread a bit. Lots of sounds… HOLD UP!!!! YOU KNOW HOW LYRE BIRDS AND PARROTS AND STERLINGS ARE EXCELLENT AT MIMICKING SOUNDS!!!!??? BIRD GRACE CAN BE SOO GOOD AT IT THAT HE CAN BASICALLY SPEAC ERIDIAN!!!! its like rockys translator but in reverse!!!! Yeah , so , as i was saying, he makes lots of sounds, just stimming sounds and stuff too ( i make A LOT of stimming sounds, yes, this is me projecting. Wow ive never done that before, rrihihieee ! I like it. I should project my unstable ness on others more often). sharp teeth cuz owls are predators.more feathers in various areas... for no particular reason . eyes that dilates when he sees somthing shiny. Oh i just know he collected seaglass when he was on earth. My boy likes his shinies. Maybe eridians would hide shiny (to them just smooth) things in the sand for him , because they loved how happy it made him. Grace. Sees shiny thing in the sand “exited gremlin bird noises” picks it up and runs to his house with it “rrrriiiieieieiie!!!”. he's probably really light. cuz hollow bones or somthin (unless we go with defying gravity grace). on the opposite end , simon is probably rather heavy. to be able to sink in the blood ocean.

“Standing in the petrorva line ,idk, unlocked? A potential of adapting in his genome. Aka he can now sorta evolve to survive erid ,(Could have been a leak into the dome which slowly made it even inside with the outside),Can echolocate, Resists higher temperatures, Can breathe ammonia, Taps his foot twice when asking questions 🤷♀️, Kinda “hears “ where things are, Probably has rougher skin , Wide vocal and hearing range, Subcounciously has his hands like 🖖 as default .” Idk. He would look human on the outside

Upside-Down Acrobatics: Inspired by nuthatches, grace might prefer sitting, eating, or observing others while hanging upside down or moving head-first down surfaces.
The "Head-Twitch" Observation: Like a white-tailed kite, grace might move their neck forward intensely to focus on a task, acting with high intensity and laser-focus.
Forced Interaction: Inspired by pet parrots, grace might purposefully drop items (or throw themselves) to the ground just to make someone else pick them up, repeating this constantly.
Hair Nesting: Some birds love to preen; grace might try to "preen" their friends by playing with their hair, tangling their fingers in it, or nuzzling into it, similar to a lovebird.
Random Object Hoarding: grace may have an unhealthy obsession with shiny items, or specifically, placing leaves on their head to show friends, similar to galahs.
"No Touchy!" Mentality: grace might be social and friendly, but absolutely refuse to be touched, biting or snapping if someone tries to pet them, yet still demanding to be near people. ??? idk bout this one tho...
Teamwork Chaos: Inspired by ravens, grace might work with others (rocky) to distract a target while stealing their belongings.
i don't know as much about birds as i know of fish , cuz i do marine biology and the birds i DID learn about where sea birds, which i guess might fit grace, but that would maybe just give him water proof feathers and salt glands (expels excess salt from body (from sea water) through tears )

also adding this here. he should also , just for fun and some lore stuff idk, have mercury blood. angle wings and silver blood. sounds fitting to me
Figured I'd hit Grace with the creature beam as well since I'm hitting Simon with it, this is my first time drawing grace too and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! His wings have a green sheen like Adrien btw, not sure if it's super visible here.
I have fallen deep into the Iron Lung rabbit hole, and specifically into the IronButcher ship. So have the design for Simon and Jack in my upcoming fic 'Bloodletting'! Not spoiling too much of it yet, you'll learn more... Soon! (I hope)
All those AUs where Simon is rescued - but he's been mutated by the blood ocean and is now under observation (and still mad about what had happened to him).
