What’s this about??
I’m sure you’re wondering what I’m thinking & what I might be doing starting a blog titled life on a budget. The title is pretty self-explanatory, but I wanted to explain why.
Money was never a thought in my mind until college when I started having to budget my spending (I struggled to say the least). Once I got married, I had the experience from having to do it throughout my college years, getting a job and realizing the amount of student loan debt I now had to pay off. We had a budget that we followed loosely, the bills were always paid on time, but we had opened credit cards and paid for a wedding and a Disney vacation...
Needless to say, we currently hold three credit cards with a whopping total of about $15,000. For about a year and a half now we have paid down a bit here and a bit there and every tax return has gone to credit card repayment and still, here we are today with over $10,000 in credit card debt alone.
Why am I sharing this with the world??! (I’m sure some of you are wondering). Here is the reason...I am sick of giving myself excuses to spend the money we don’t have or the money we should be putting towards credit card repayment. I am hoping this helps to hold me accountable, because for the next year I am taking my family on a journey that will involve sacrifices, budgets, cutbacks, and a lot of saying no.
