so the reason ed sought out to meet stede in the first place is because he thought stede was cool

i know it’s a throw-away line but could it also be that simple?

sure, blackbeard hears rumor of a wealthy landowner becoming a pirate and probably thought: he sounds cool but if he’s not i’ll just kill him and take his stuff, you know pretty boilerplate pirate stuff

BUT as soon as ed sees this beautiful bizarre little man with his exquisite cashmere and secret closet and full library with two chandeliers, he’s like fuck yeah i knew this guy was cool

stede’s cool, ed likes it, and the rest is history
