Sherlock has been in my care for around 3/4th of a year now. He is HUGE, (over five feet long) healthy and climbs like a champ. He shows no sign of any health problems, he puffs to communicate his presence and eats two adult f/t mice a week keeping him plump but not fat, sheds all in one piece now and has a very healthy appetite. He even comes out of his hides frequently now that he has a mild UV light on his tank in addition to the red incandescent that heats his logs for him to sit on. He has no signs of burns or compacting food even though we had to take away his UTH pad since it was getting old and unpredictable. Special thanks to all the help from the reptiblr community, specifically crispysnakes, thlpp and cloudiiedays for all the support and advice on long term snake sitting.
This kiddo needed a soak. I think she's getting ready to go into shed! First one since she's been here. She's up to 317g as well.
Sangria, one of my baby noodles. She’s gotten quite a lot bigger than when I got her... not sure when that happened. Still a fantastic eater and such a sweetie!
(boa imperator)
Such a pretty sneklace. Still housing this b.c.c, unfortunately. Local reptile rescue won't take her. They're illegal to have in my county and I'm SO paranoid someone is going to find out. I've gotta find someone who knows how to take care of them and rehome her. Any advice/resources you guys(reptiblr) know about?
Custom Bioactive Setups
I’m really excited :D My coworker is starting to make custom melamine enclosures with her fiance, and I’m commissioning them to make a nice big multi-purpose arboreal/ terrestrial snake tank for my brazilian rainbow boa. He’s currently in a 75 gallon tank, which is nice and long and has some height too it, but I would really like to add much more height and get him something that lets him do some more climbing. When he is out of his enclosure he never really wants to climb much, but I really want to give him some more options, I have been busy and haven’t had as much time to devote to giving him enrichment outside of the tank as I would like.
Any suggestions from anyone who has done bioactive tanks? I’d really like to go bioactive with this new one, get a drainage system going, get a mister set on a timer, have some live plants, maybe even have a small body of water in the bottom half of the tank that could circulate and filter (I sort of have something like that now in his current set up, but its just a plastic tub the size of a big shoebox with a small fountain in it that keeps it circulating/ filtered) I’ve been doing some research but I would also like some input from the reptile community, since we’re coworkers we can get really custom with this one because we can communicate very easily, so I’d like to know if anyone had any suggestions for what I should specify or ask for when commissioning this tank. Tagging some relevant blogs that I know have bioactive experience, but if you know someone I didn’t tag who might be helpful and they wouldn’t mind being tag, feel free to tag them.
