I realized that I'm taking my Pediatric Critical Care boards this fall, and I won't have a lot of time to study once I graduate. Time to get to work and at least give myself some study resources I know will work for me when it's go-time.

Anna Pearce (better known earlier in life as Patty Duke) died of sepsis from a perforated bowel. Septic shock is when the body goes into organ failure due to overwhelming infection. The Centers for Disease Control want you to know the early symptoms of sepsis:

S - Shivering, fever, or feeling very cold E - Extreme pain or general discomfort, as in “worst ever” P - Pale or discolored skin S - Sleepy, difficult to wake up or confused I - “I feel like I might die” S - Shortness of breath

Yesterday was a rough nursing day. It wasn’t “difficult”, it was just emotionally draining. I called the wrong doctors, and ended up paging the correct doctor and still no page back. 🤦‍♀️ My patient ended up not IV access for 5 hours until the MET team can come and do an ultrasound powerglide. Both of my patients were crying because they are probably having ICU delirium. My other patient’s family ended up making a really difficult decision for their love ones and I sat in on it because the doctor asked me too. And on top of that I worked 3 days straight, one day off, then another 2 days on. Exhausted doesn’t explain how I feel at this moment. I just want to stop having patients that are crying on me. As a nurse I can only comfort so much. I cannot take away all the pain or the problem and tbh it’s frustrating. Whew, now that’s off my chest.

On another note:

I’m glad I starting to blog again! Writing and working out are really helping me to destress the shit that’s going on in my head. Praise the Lord that my faith is strong 💪 and that is what grounds me. I couldn’t do it without knowing that I belong to a higher being. I know I am forever blessed, grateful, appreciated, and looked after.

This is the special piggy weight gain team. They are all underweight, and have been getting bonus food to boost them. They have to eat their snacks out of the big pen or the other hungry hungry hippos will gobble it up. They're eating a porridge that we invented for Mortimer called Mortimix. It's about four parts oxbow pellets, one part critical care, and one part treat (applesauce, pureed pumpkin, pureed butternut squash, etc.) Then add water until it has a consistency like oatmeal. It helps our sick pigs and slow eaters get their calories. Would you eat it? I have. 😝 From left to right, Mary lost weight for unknown reasons and will be getting her thyroid levels tested soon. Xiomara had a mass in her abdomen that was recently removed.
