I’m looking for a critique partner! I write original fiction and have a couple of works in progress. I really want a person or two to chat writing with consistently. Caught in the Current — A Superhero romance set in a fictional futuristic African city, powered by a mysterious mineral from an asteroid that crashed there years ago.A nerdy girl suspects her best friend is the city’s superhero… turns out, he’s the villain obsessed with the hero. Oops. Themes: energy politics, obsession, identity, and friends to loverssss dramaaa.⚡️🪐

What I’m Looking For:

✨ So, you’ve finished your draft. Now what?

You’ve lived in your Google Doc for months. You know your characters’ coffee orders and their deepest traumas. But you’ve also hit that point where you can’t tell if a plot twist is genius or if it’s just confusing.

That is where I come in.

Every writer needs a "Better Reader"—a dedicated Beta Reader to look at your manuscript with fresh eyes. Here is why handing your baby (read: manuscript) over to me will change your writing game:

1. Curing "Draft Blindness"

You know what you meant to write, so your brain fills in the gaps. I read what is actually on the page. I’ll catch where the description is lacking or where the dialogue feels stiff because I’m experiencing the story for the first time.

2. The Plot Hole Patrol

Remember how the protagonist lost their sword in Chapter 3 but used it in Chapter 10? I will. I’m here to track the continuity errors and timeline glitches that slip through the cracks.

3. Pacing Checks

Does the middle sag? Is the ending rushed? I analyze the flow of your story to ensure the reader stays hooked from the inciting incident to the final period.

4. Honest Reaction (The "Screaming" Factor)

Grammar checking is great, but don't you want to know if your jokes are funny? If the angst actually hurts? I provide live reactions and inline comments so you know exactly how your audience will feel.

5. Constructive, Actionable Feedback

I don’t just say "this doesn't work." I tell you why and help brainstorm how to fix it. My goal isn't to tear you down; it’s to polish your work until it shines.

YOU ARE NOT THE CHOSEN ONE is an adult queer epic fantasy, first in a series of 99K words. It combines saving the world from an apocalypse of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY with the cynicism of GIDEON THE NINTH. The book has two queer and autistic main characters with an Achillean and Sapphic romantic subplot.

All seer Cass Trueblood wants is to finally have some peace. But within a year, the world will fall to a Fear based apocalypse, and it’s up to Cass to find a Chosen One, guide them on their journey and save the world. But when he finally has the vision, he finds the unimaginable: there is no Chosen One.

Then Cass is rescued by firefighter Esti. She’s experienced with a sword, and best of all, she dreams of being Chosen One. Desperate to fulfill a destiny he never asked for, Cass tells Esti she’s the Chosen One. No one ever needs to know he lied.

Cass and Esti set off on a journey to the Fear ravaged continent, where an emotion based magic heightens fear, but also turns people to violence and brought an increase in dangerous monsters. Cass will do anything to save the world, tell any lie and commit any crime, but if he cannot learn to treat Esti as a person and not a piece in his game, he will lose her loyalty and doom the world forever.
