What's Earth like in the year 20XX?

i view the mouthwashing universe as being set in a couple hundred years into the future and operating very similarly to the the cowboy bebop and the alien franchises tbh earth is still habitable, but it's way worse than it is now. their air quality sucks, there's barely any opportunities, poverty and inequality is widespread. the people who could afford to leave the planet did so generations ago

the way that galaxy colonisation and space travel facilitates cultural and linguistic mixing also rly informs my hc about the tulpar crew, and how space travel is generally

bc at this point in history, there are both national identities, which are supplemented then by planetary identities

there's multiple cities and outposts on each planet, moon, or even satellite (usually, depends on the size and local conditions)

street signs are commonly in several different languages, as are signs in space itself

English, Mandarin, Spanish and Russian probably remain the most common lingua francas
