F. What stories are you planning for the future?
Haha, I’ve actually been stressing at talking to people about this lately! I get all introspective at the end of the year. Here’s the breakdown, anyway:
smithsmith - so, the game is still technically a thing, it just went dormant when my motivation got eaten by the voluntolding. I’m gonna be picking it back up in the new year and hopefully finishing the first draft, get it to a point where I have something to show
idol boyfriends - look, I wish I had a better name for this world too, but we all know me. These are the dorks that I’ve been comfort-writing while I haven’t had enough motivation for Real Things. I’ve given myself to the end of the year to keep indulging, so I’m going to finish the currently-13k-monster and leave it there, probably. This was very nice while it lasted.
kindle stuff - I’ve been poking at the idea of publishing things on the Kindle store for, like, literal years now. maybe this year I will actually do that? The notion terrifies me, but hey, so does everything.
L. Which character did you most write about this year, and why do you like ‘em?
Oh boy. Probably the idol boyfriends, and that’d be a toss-up between Sei and Aki going by wordcounts, I think. Everyone who has seen these stories has absolutely fallen for Sei, who I adore because he is the personification of You Don’t Have To Be Nice To Be A Good Person. He is so angry, all the time. He’s an extremely ethical voyeur who reviles human connection and has somehow wound up with a happy poly collection of boyfriends who love him. He’s so mad. Writing about how mad he is is actually the most fun thing ever.
A. If you could rec a piece of music to accompany one of your fics, what would you pick? Why?
oh god it’s been so long since I’ve actually written a gosh-darn fic I’ve forgotten all the music I ever listened to. have some character music for my favourite mess in smithsmith instead.
W. Who are your favorite writers?
well there’s this fic writer I’ve been following for ages who does the most amazing things with worldbuilding and snark and heartbreak, you might’ve heard of her, I gather she’s pretty good at what she does :V
E. Who’s your favorite main character you’ve written?
oh jeez, I was just talking about this with Jess the other day. I have patterns for who I choose as my viewpoint character, and it’s usually the biggest fuckin’ disaster in the world. and it’s one of the things I love the most about writing, getting to sink into someone else’s decision-making process, their motivations and fears. if I’m being perfectly honest, looking at myself back through that lense, examining what of my own motivations and fears and strengths make it through, the bits and pieces of myself I pour - conscious or not - into the work, that is also something that is interesting and awkward and humbling. anyway, because I’m fickle, it’s definitely whoever I’m writing at the moment - Sollux, with OLOH, was great, though; I’m still very proud of the writing I did there.
S. What’s the sexiest thing you wrote this year?
because I have no memory of the past year, I’m going for recent memory, and… fuck, I dunno. probably the one story I’ve written that I can’t show anyone, because I wrote it for Jess. the other stuff is either a) exactly the right age where I’m cringing at the writing or b) not really sexy even if there’s sex.
