I decided to spend a few hours today working out a potential schedule for hogwarts just to see if I could and this is the result
these schedules work off of the assumption that each class is shared with at least one other house. the core classes for years 1-5 have the houses paired into A and B sections so 2 houses will share 1 schedule. all of the electives and the core classes for years 6-7 have 1 section per year with all houses sharing a class together
these schedules also assume 1 teacher per subject. I would cap the student population at approximately 60 students per year without hiring more staff as that would have roughly 30 students per class for your 1st-5th year core classes and the core teachers’ schedules are already incredibly full with classes running from 8am to 8pm (with the exception of astronomy practicals) with only an hour for lunch
I also did not reference the books/movies at all while creating this so the schedules are most likely wildly different from those referenced in canon (a student could easily take all 5 electives without a time-turner using these schedules). these are how I would see a reasonable schedule given the constraints of the number of teachers. ideally, hogwarts would have more teachers allowing for a shorter school day and more students (iirc most american public schools run about 7 hours, but I have no clue about british boarding schools)
feel free to use these schedules as you will (use them as is or modify them to fit your needs), but I would appreciate it if you would credit me (harmonyblu13 on tumblr, HarmonyBlu on ao3) if you use them in a fic or something of the like
Update (Jan 14, 2023): As of Mar 16, 2022 I updated the schedules so that each house was sharing classes with all three other houses rather than only one other house. These updated schedules are under the tabs “Updated Schedules by [Year/Class/House]” with the original schedules under the tabs “Schedules by [Year/Class/House]”. The schedules still do not follow the canon schedules as the only thing I changed about them was to allow each house to have a roughly equal number of classes with each other house. If there is interest, I may reformat these schedules into a more reader friendly format such as what would be handed out to students. If you would like a schedule for a particular year and house reformatted, please message me.
