The Lake Crowley Columns, Toms Place, CA. Formation of these wild columns is related to an ancient volcanic explosion that created the Long Valley Caldera where Lake Crowley resides. Snow runoff mixing with hot volcanic ash and tuft resulted in the columns having evenly spaced “blocks”. I can’t wrap my mind around that at all. If any geologists read this and what to explain to me in layman’s terms, have at it! This place is one of the strangest spots I’ve been to, and it is NOT easy getting there. And don’t even ask about the mosquito hordes that swarm in the shade of the column overhang. . . . . . . . . . . #california #crowleylake #geology #CAStateParks #VisitCalifornia #naturalcalifornia #wildcalifornia #CaliforniaCaptures #wonderlustcalifornia #modernoutdoors #natgeolandscape #natgeoadventure #natgeoyourshot #natgeotravelpic #Yourshotphotographer #negativemag #OurPlanetDaily #lonelyplanet #mylpguide #usinterior #sonyalpha #bealpha @sonyalpha (at Toms Place, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE1iRY2DSDd/?igshid=1vta023rpytrd
