CRUSH: First Love, New Talent Anthology: Help emerging LGBTQ+ comic artists/writers and me get all paid for our work

A comics anthology from up and coming queer comics creators about those first forays into romance.

My comic writing will debut in this Stacked Dress Press Crush Anthology. This is the Kickstarter so all the artists/writers will be compensated for our work.

First love is tricky enough when you're straight, but downright confounding when you're on the LGBTQAIU spectrum. Whether you're an Ace discovering that loving a person doesn't have to include sex, a young man having that first relationship with an Older Gentleman that changes the direction of your life, or an Aromantic Demon finding a surprising exception to his fun-only rule, Crush tells stories that ring true to queer experience.

The artist Marie Wu did a stellar job at illustrating my personal story of discovering my bisexuality. 

The success of this 30-day Kickstarter will determine mine, Marie Wu’s, and the other creators’ payment so we have stakes in this.

Printing: $9,500.00

Creator compensation: $5,500.00

Kickstarter and credit card fees: $1,700.00

Shipping and postage: $1,000.00

Rewards cost: $1,000.00

Miscellaneous: $500.00

Total: $19,200.00

The Crush Anthology that I have a comic in is in the last 6 days of funding, & we still have 10k left to raise, so I thought I'd talk a little bit about the comic I did for the anthology! Ideally I wish I could just share the first 3 full pages & leave it at that, but alas, that’s not an option....

When I first heard about this anthology, my 1st thought was how prevalent the 'instant crush' trope is in narratives, & how I had trouble understanding a) what physical attraction entailed & b) how that alone is compelling enough to pursue someone at the cost of other things.

The Calamansi Tree is a story about two young spotted doves, who only meet briefly at the end of every school day. I really wish I could post this one particular page of my Crush Anthology bc its the true tale of how the moment I first recognized I had a legitimate crush & considered pursuing it. I've told the tale of this crush to some pals, so its nice to have in comic form

The main hope for my Crush Anthology comic is that it finds it's way into the hands of someone who feels pressured to have a certain amount of romantic experience by w/e age. It’s a-okay if you don’t want that experience, but if you -DO- want that exp, remember Love can look effortless in fiction. In life you have to put in the effort to even get things maybe started.

There's little over 2 days left to raise $8416 to meet the funding goal for the Anthology Kickstarter. I have no clue if that goal will be met (I mean SGDQ raise 100k in 15min so anything's possible), but thank you so much for the support so far ;~; You can find the Kickstarter here!

There’s 3 Days Left to raise $8500 to fund the printing for the comic anthology Crush: First Love, New Talent!  Here’s another preview of my comic, and some more thoughts about the comic I made for it!

I never actually expected my pitch to get accepted, so I was just as nervous about making a comic for this anthology as I was excited. A thing that helped me go through w/ making & promoting this comic is the hopes that it might relate & help someone out there.
