                 elijah  has  figured  out  by  now  that  there  are  a  few  things  calix  and  only  calix  can  do  .  only  calix  can  coax  him  outside  after  having  hidden  for  weeks  .  only  calix  can  seem  to  steady  him  on  those  bad  days  as  he  recovers,  pull  him  out  from  whatever  hole  he’s  dug  himself  into  .  and  only  calix  can  render  elijah  speechless  at  any  given  moment  .                 something  tightens  in  elijah’s  chest  at  the  words,  and  he  looks  back  at  calix  with  near  pity  .  it’s  almost  as  if  he  wants  to  apologize,  take  back  every  thing  that’s  happened  between  the  two  and  let  calix  return  to  whatever  life  he  had  before  elijah  swept  in  to  stir  everything  up  .  but  he  knows  that  isn’t  what  calix  wants  nor  implies,  and  it's  far  from  what  elijah  has  any  intention  of  doing  .                   they’ve  both  changed  since  their  first  day  together,  and  elijah  wonders  if  they’d  be  able  to  recognize  themselves  now  .  they’ve  softened  each  other,  in  every  sort  of  way,  and  sometimes  elijah  wonders  if  this  is  what  he  needed  all  along  .  he  remains  stubborn  at  his  core,  still  having  his  huffy  moments  around  the  other  man,  but  it’s  almost  nothing  compared  to  before  .  hands  take  calix’s  in  his  grasp,  letting  fingrs  brush  lightly  and  wondering  if  he  can  feel  the  adoration  with  each  tracing  touch  .  “  it’s…  it’s  okay  to  need  me,  you  know  .  god,  calix,  do  you  need  how  much  I  need  you  ?  ”

there’s a hint of something pleased in elijah’s expression, near amusement flickering over his gaze. but it almost stings just as well, and he wonders if there’s true resentment to diyo’s words. when he shifts to face him again, it’s all a mess in his gaze— the slightest bit of guilt all muddled along with the pride shining back . ‘ don’t say it like that, ’ he wants to sigh . and instead noses brush gently together, another quick kiss stolen before words get in the way again . elijah has a talent for ruining just about anything and anyone he touches ( self includes ), far too selfish and toying in the way he plays with others, but he’d hoped diyo would be an exception, and even now he hopes his tone is playfully so . couldn’t it all go both ways ? no one else coaxed out the reactions diyo did, no one else had him grabbing fistfuls of sheets to steady himself, and no one else stayed so long after to coddle and sweet - talk him back to reality . couldn’t diyo see just how ruined elijah was for anyone else too ? couldn’t he see the way he glowed just for him ?
