#personal #it was supposed to be her turn on the switch but my brother was in the middle of a game #they started screaming at each other and my mom said my brother got five more minutes and then they would switch #that didnt seem fair to my sister bc my brother had already had it for a while and its almost bedtime so she wouldnt get it for as long #so she had a meltdown #and then she still needed time to cool off even once they switched #my mom made a remark about how shes wasting her turn with cryin #crying*#but at that point it wasnt about the video game anymore #she felt she had been treated unfairly and was upset about that #whether or not my mom made the 'right call' is very subjective and debatable #there wasnt really a solution which would feel fair to both #and my mom tries so goddamn hard at 'fairness' making sure everything is perfectly equal all the time and they each get the same amount #of all of the same things so now they cant handle it if she were to offer my sister something else in place of the switch bc then my brother #would see that as unfair #so there wasnt a whole lot to be done but she really needs to recognize that sometimes kids #especially n.d. kids like my sister and i #will just inevitably have meltdowns and theres not always a way to prevent it but there are ways to make them more manageable for the kid #saying 'youre wasting your whole turn' will invariably make the meltdown worse #not stop it in its tracks bc meltdowns do not respond to reason
