It is very telling how teenage girls get vilified and hated on even more than the actual villain of the story. Teenage boys have the space to grow and make mistakes and not get hated on even if they cheat or hurt a character but teenage girls can't, at least not by the public or by the fandom because they get criticized and hated on if they do a bad thing. Characters like Samantha Larusso from Cobra Kai, Virginia "Ginny" Miller from Ginny and Georgia, Isabel "Belly" Conklin from The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones among many others tend to get hated on by the fans so much more than the actual villain and they try to paint them as though they were the villain of the story.
