where's that post about not being able to talk about Subnautica with people cause they don't really understand the game?? cause i just saw a video calling the Reaper Leviathan a monster and idk why but it pissed me off so bad
it's not a monster. it's a carnivorous animal that hunts in the shallow ocean waters. is it aggressive? yes. is it territorial? yes. but it's just an animal. for gameplay purposes, it targets you, goes after you to challenge you and make you understand that you are a tiny fish in this massive ocean. but it's not after you specifically. it's just looking for food. you wouldn't call a dolphin a monster for snapping up fish in droves.
people call sharks monsters all the times but they're not and people make the same mistake with subnatutica's ecosystem. i think Below Zero's cryptosuchus is a great example of this. to me they're the peak of what both games try and do with their fauna. cryptosuchus is a hunter and WILL go after the player, but only when you get close. and you have to get SUPER close to trigger them. i remember when i learned that we could coexist by me just steering a wide berth around them, giving them plenty of space to do their thing and i'll do mine and we won't have any problems.
i wasn't sure where i was going with this guy anyway live, laugh, love leviathans <3
Angry armored sea croc my beloved-
I haven't played anything other than Subnautica and Sub Zero since December of last year. The creature designs in these games are impeccable all around, but the Cryptosuchus is my favorite by far. He doesn't look like he belongs and that makes him ten times more delightful in my eyes!
Version with slightly different editing under the cut because I couldn't decide which I liked better:
What of my least favorite aggressive subnautica creatures do you wanna be
Chelicerate
Squidshark
Warper
Cryptosuchus
Sand shark
I drew a fishy.
