So I just found out that they nerfed the "multitool" in Subnautica 2 in the sense that you can't kill fish with it.

And that Ryley Robinson went on to be a Motivational Speaker before he decided to go exploring again.

I know they nerfed the tool for different reasons, but hear me out when I say that what if the in-game reason is that Ryley's "motivational speeches" were dripping in so much fishy genocidal bloodlust that Alterra had to figure out a way to keep any weapon on the print list from killing anything because they were that afraid of making another Ryley Robinson

Now I just want to see an animation of Ryley standing menacingly at a podium, hunched over it with his voice dripping with rage as he talks about how empowering it is to kill something over a hundred times your size with the non-upgraded knife.

Okay genuinely, truthfully, wholeheartedly. I do not understand why Subnautica: Below Zero got such a bad rap. It is everything I could have wanted from a sequel (and yes, I'm calling it a sequel because it deserves the title) and more.

Is the map smaller than Subnautica's? Sure, but it is SO complex and genuinely fascinating to navigate that I have played for 21 hours now and still haven't even touched all of the biomes. It's still tremendous, and it's twisty and FULL of sneaky, clever caves, and the lack of depth is made up for in above water height: the addition of TONS of land space with mysteries and leviathans untold.

Is the overall game shorter than Subnautica's? Sure, but "shorter" still means anywhere from 7 to 40 whole hours. There is TONS of stuff in this game from full land and sea ecosystems to the rusted wreckage of another Alterra vessel and its doomed crew with rich lives and romances to abandoned research facilities to at least two actual interactible characters that you meet and engage with.

There is literally an Alien Boyfriend in this game. I am being SO serious.

The story of Robin, our POV character is rich, her life and mission is super interesting it feels like I have a stake in the game and the world, and the stories she encounters from her sister, the Mercury Crew, Marguerite, AL-AN, are all so deeply engaging, I truly can't wait to understand the whole picture.

And everything is BEAUTIFUL.
