CTRLZAK Designs “Color in Architecture” Competition Prizes, for Design Ambassador & ARCHISEARCH.gr Inspired by Prisms.
CTRLZAK is a hybrid studio that integrates diverse disciplines and cultures. Founded by artists and designers Katia Meneghini and Thanos Zakopoulos, the duo’s creations are inspired by their experiences around the globe, their own rich cultural backgrounds, and the natural world that surrounds us.
The studio creates artworks, objects and spaces but above all points of reflection where form follows meaning. CTRLZAK’s projects and extensive research into tradition and cultural context create a new hybrid future by learning continuously from the past.
Each project is a story waiting to be told, with a multitude of forms and endings. Each one experiments with diverse methods of narration where symbolism and irony go beyond aesthetics and functionality in order to make people contemplate their actions and the world that we live in.
CTRLZAK’s creations have been extensively exhibited in galleries around the world and their work has been selected by museums and institutions like MOMA, the Louvre and the Venice Art Biennale, to name a few.

TO BEE OR NOT TO BEE
A symbolic project/call to action to help bees survival that promotes a few simple gestures: avoid the use of chemical pesticides and plant more and diverse flowers. Because as A.Einstein put it: “If the bees disappear from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live”.
This project gave birth to two graphic artworks that present the bees' life cycle, their habitat and above all the role they play on pollination and eventually our own survival on planet Earth. Inside this context a toolkit was also designed that contains an informative booklet on the world of bees, a selection of seeds from their favorite flowers and a wooden sling that promotes seed planting in a playful/guerrilla mode (by launching soil pellets rich in seeds). These and more tools are included into the wooden box which once emptied can also be hanged on a tree and serve as a rudimentary beehive. Finally in order to spread the message even further, a series of postcards containing diverse flower seeds (preferred by bees and in this case suited to a temperate climate) where sent and distributed around Europe.
FEMME FANATIQUE
Femme Fanatique is a space dedicated to the world of tango. As in a milonga, CTRLZAK’s project positions in space the various elements that embrace the visitor/client within the store. The specially designed display wall that functions as the main exhibition area for the creations of Femme Fanatique is not static but permits instead a multitude of diverse arrangements as it happens in tango where nothing is predetermined but instead is created through the tempo and the rhythm of the music. In tango the movement of the whole body is important starting from the feet themselves while placing emphasis on the main axis of the body which becomes a connecting link through the couple’s embrace. This is represented by a central installation where the shoes follow the basic steps of the dance encased under protective glass domes underneath weighted lines that indicate the precious creations. The suspended lines become the ‘fil rouge’ that symbolizes the common axis that a tango couple should have, a unique balance that makes reference to the body’s correct posture within space.
