“Merlin!” Arthur woke with a start to the sight of the Cu Sidhe at the foot of their bed, and smacked him awake with more than a little panic.
“Oh, you can see her again, then?” Merlin responded, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes with a stretch as he took in the sight of the massive beast.
“Agai--has she been here the whole time?!”
“I mean…more or less? She wanders off sometimes but I can’t exactly release her or she’ll go after Lancelot. I just have to find something else for her to guard, it’ll be fine.” Merlin rolled over, settling back into the luxurious mountain of pillows, entirely ignoring Arthur’s panic.
“MerLIN!”
“Stop being such a girl,” Merlin said with a groan, a teasing mirror of all the time Arthur had said the same to him. Though, to his credit, he did force himself out of the pillows to a sit, and got the giant dog to jump down from the bed and scamper off to curl by the fireplace.
“Things’ll never be normal with you around, will they?” Arthur asked.
“Fraid not… still sure about your choice?” Merlin asked, with a charming and infuriating smirk.
“Unfortunately, yes, I’m absolutely confident,” Arthur answered, deadpan, before pulling Merlin into a long kiss.
