There is a tradition with the St. Petersburg rink fam. Every skater – during warm up, or, sometimes to close off a training session – chooses the most ridiculous song they can think of for a person and the person needs to perform it to a T. Nothing too major: it doesn’t have to be an elaborate choreography; the performers don’t even have to include jumps.
The only obligation is, skaters can’t refuse to perform it and they have to literally go big or go home.
This tradition has been useful too: sometimes this is a really funny way for skaters to find music for their gala (and the tradition wants every skater in the audience to shout ‘Gala!’ whenever they feel somebody’s performance should be taken further). Yakov will probably never admit that this tradition is actually something he has learnt to enjoy… until, of course, some of his skaters chooses a really inadvisable piece for their gala. He still needs to recover from Viktor’s Barbie Girl and Georgi’s Wannabe performances, but he will be fine, really.
