I saw a TikTok recently that just sort of put into perspective everything that has made it hard to swallow the fandom’s defensiveness of her:

They emphasized that Taylor is no longer the underdog and that’s been a prominent cornerstone to her whole career. You could root for her because of the kimye Call, root for her to be free to write about her feelings without being called a serial dater, root for the rerecordings because the og’s were taken from her..

She’s just now in a place where she is not the underdog in any form. And that’s fine like she’s now dating a super popular football star and all the money, best tour, sales, etc. but I think a lot of fans still see her as this underdog figure that is being unfairly called out on things when that’s just not true. She’s the top of the food chain. Itjust bothers me that this continues to be the attitude when the reality is she does hold a lot of sway and responsibility that she has the luxury to ignore. (Sorry long ask it’s just been on my mind a lot now lol)

I was literally JUST thinking about this exactly. They’re obsessed with her being an underdog and she hasn’t been the underdog in so long. ‘She’s doing this to sell albums’ she could burp into a microphone and it would go number 1 and break records, so it’s unnecessary. Also the excuse of ‘other artists are doing the same thing’, other artists aren’t Taylor Swift. They actually have people to convince and get on their side, incentivize them to buy the product, Taylor doesn’t need to incentivize people to buy her work.

Swifties have such a victim mentality when it comes to her but if there’s one thing she cannot be is a victim of capitalism… upholding it is how she became a billionaire.

THE LITTLE MERMAID!!! It was so WHOLESOME and I think I loved that they added a very simple/older style beginning that is just.. somehow so wholesome and the right for for the story this film tells? I loved the movie so much I’m so glad you got to enjoy it!

Hallie I love this message so much because it was literally the old-fashioned beginning that I loved immediately! I saw it and knew: yep I like this movie. The quote about tears??? and then the movie ending with her crying?? So. Much.

Hi Maria,

I have thought about you so much recently and I can never uplift with words the way you do (you’re just too on the nose and I’m constantly line “HERES GIANT FEELING here”.

But I am constantly in awe of your devotion to your teachers, your ideas of love, your fervent belief in world that has the capability of being witty and interesting.

I do hope you see even with your flaws the light you bring to everyone’s lives. There’s something so special when I think about your light on tumblr and how even some of my mutual would never have built a community if we weren’t all drawn to your opinions and ideas.

I’m not sure this has a full point (and you can just keep this tucked away instead of responding ❤️) but I just am very appreciative of you and every good/bad/brash/bold/soft/pure/fierce facet of your character.

Do you ever associate books with Taylor’s albums? Like “oh fearless is a full mood for *this* book” type of thing?

!!! I can’t say that I do. Though I did once assign a Taylor album to each Austen novel!! I think I just think too intensely about Taylor’s work as Taylor’s work to be able to really associate it with anything but itself.

But I’d love to hear your thoughts or associations!

Thoughts on cowboy like me?

I love it so so so so so much 😭😭😭😭😭😭

It was not a first listen love, it took a couple tries. But once it hit????

IT’s SO SOFT but it has this WEIGHT to it, as Emma said once. The happy ending is the softest, sweetest twist. The sound is so lovely and Marcus Mumford is a good Taylor feature. @catefrankie is right. It has some of the best swearing on the album. (Love it.) There’s this blending of things in it that is so SURPRISING to me, you know? They’re cynical and in it for the hustle but they’re KIDS. It’s a dark story of deception etc. but it’s full of such light and innocence!

And the way the melody goes with the part that’s like “cowboy like me/perched in the dark” etc. has this rhythm to it THAT’s LIKE A COWBOY ON A HORSE.

“I’m never gonna love again” as the opening and ending line. That statement as a hOPEFUL THING.

Right now it’s one of my faves, a new and yet familiar piece of Taylor’s heart and her endless love for pure love stories, coupled with a sound that is new and different for her and yet not jarring at all. But deeply deeply familiar and lived in. I just wanna live in it forever.
