okay so every time I see this post crop back up in queues and notifications I end up thinking about it. Because I made the post and even I'm still doing the thing where I read the post about maintaining range of motion in my delicate meatsuit and I nod and hmm and think yeah that's a good idea and then dont move from where I'm curled up shrimp style staring at the nightmare rectangle.

So like. Thinking real hard about moving doesn't count as moving. Major bummer. Anyways. Joints.

i am getting tired of the whole eloise is so 'privileged' discourse. eloise does have more wealth and comforts than many other women during this time period. despite that she does not have actual control over that wealth, she is legally her brother's property, and she is unable to access the same freedom her brother's have. no matter her privilege, she is still living under a system that denies her personhood, gives her no legal rights or recourse, and under social & legal norms that are so oppressive and so suffocating that most viewers cannot even began to understand what it is like.

in fact, one of the reasons that she cannot really understand her own 'privilege' is because she has had very little opportunity to really see the world. we see her brother's come and go as the please, study at eton, travel the country and europe, go to gentlemen clubs etc. when we see eloise, we see her either at her home or someone else's home. when she is out (aside from the theo thing), she is usually under the watchful eye of her mother, brother, maid, tutor or married sisters/friends. eloise is quite literally caged by them. and eloise does not have to respect these social norms or the people enforcing them on her. especially since well, they largely view her with condescending amusement.
