books i read in april
cursed bunny by bora chung⭐️⭐️⭐️
i gave this book three stars out of fear. did not like it but i can respect it. i am so afraid of bodily functions not working correctly, especially pregnancy! let alone the complications that can come with it!!!!
coffin moon by keith rosson⭐️⭐️⭐️
i looooove vampires <3 i feel like this book played into the stereotypes of silver and sunlight in a way that didn’t make it feel overplayed. this story’s hero is a 13 year old girl(yes!!!!), aren’t they always the only ones strong enough to get a job done? i love a good revenge story fueled by vampiric love on both sides of the fight.
never flinch by stephen king⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
so good!!!! i hope we have a million more holly gibney stories! my favorite stephen king books are the ones where the real horror is just a racist homophobe with daddy issues. holly gibney has a gun motherfucker!
canticle by janet rich edwards⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
this book was hard to get through as someone who suffered through a catholic upbringing. i will never understand why it is frowned upon to question the world you see in front of you. we can find more meaning in everything when it’s put to the test. christ based teachings have been twisted and manipulated to fit the popular narrative since the beginning of time! i don’t want to hear what an old white man has to say about jesus or god or the bible. everything is god, “my, me is god,” and he lets bad things happen and no matter how angry i am, i will still pray the holy mary when i am afraid.
If I could make a wish, I want to be just a little happier. If I become too happy, I will miss sadness.
Bora Chung, Cursed Bunny
That was the first time he sobbed in earnest. Not the cries of someone driven mad with fear, but the tears of someone who understood and was saddened by their own loneliness—the tears of a human being.
Bora Chung, "Scars" from Cursed Bunny (translated by Anton Hur)
