45. Long Slide, With Laser Sight.
Nighthawk Custom GRP Recon .45 1911
Baby Assassins / Baby Assassins 2 / Baby Assassins: Nice Days (Japan, 2021/2023/2024)
Nothing like a good ole 1911 .45 ACP. This one is my 1911 Officer’s Model .45 ACP. Great solid shooter in a compact size. ⚡️

Colt Custom Shop Rail Gun (Special Combat) 9mm
I’ve recently rekindled my love affair with the 1911. While my Glock is my CC gun and I would probably be slightly more inclined to use a Glock over a 1911 as a duty gun, I don’t think there is a better looking or smoother shooting handgun than a 1911.
Now, some people might say “a 1911 in 9mm that isn’t a competition 1911 in .38 Super?! Heresy!” But boy, let me tell you what, absolutely do not sleep on a 1911 9mm.
Now let me tell you a little it about her:
She’s a special one. While I was on the Pistol team at school, we were able to get a small order in for Colt’s Custom Shop. We asked that they take the Colt Rail Gun (9mm) and Special Combat Government and smash them together. And wow did it turn out incredibly.
She rocks the Ed Brown beavertail, CCS Enhanced Hammer, a National Match 9mm barrel, Novak cut Trijicon night sights, G10 grips, a flared magazine well, front and rear cocking serrations, and the traditional left side safety as opposed to the ambi safety.
THE GOOD
This is one of the most ergonomically friendly handguns I have ever felt. You pick it up and it just fits in your hand. If you’ve ever picked up a 1911 and been like “damn, this just fits” wait until you pick one up in 9mm. The frame is thinned out subtly enough to fit your hand even better than traditional 1911s and, in my opinion, is better than the CZ75. Natural point of aim with this thing is insane. One thing I’m guilty of is not even looking at my sights when I shoot because I end up hitting targets just point shooting because I’m an asshole. Speaking of how it shoots, there’s enough mass on the gun to take out a shit ton of felt recoil. Trigger is a CCS gun, so I’m not even going to elaborate on the trigger because who doesn’t know about 1911 triggers. It’s incredible. Glass wall, SAO, 3lbs pull. I can’t say enough about it.
THE BAD
1911s are known for reliability issues when they haven’t been cleaned, but semi customs can take that to another level. Because everything is hand fitted, dirt, debris, carbon, hair, basically anything can stop this gun, so maintaining a 1911 is very important. That being said though, I put 800 rounds through this gun this weekend and had two FTEs (probably because I didn’t hit my extractor). Not the reliability of a Glock (which is why the Glock is my carry gun and what I’d pick as a duty gun), but all said not awful for a 1911.
THE MIDDLE
Weight. This isn’t a light gun. You feel it on your hip; it wants to carry your holster with it when you’re running. But that weight aids in mitigating felt recoil. I think here it ends up being a wash.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
This last weekend I hung out with one of my best friends and Pistol teammate, so naturally we shot A LOT. I got shot a CZ75 SP01, CZ75 Shadow 2, Sig P320, Beretta 92FS, Glock 19, Glock 34, Dan Wesson Specialist, and this Colt Special Combat 9mm. I thought when I shot the CZ’s my life would be changed, but this handgun was better for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got way more rounds through this gun than the SP01 and the Shadow 2 so it’s by no means a “fair” comparison and I’ll admit to that. The thickness of the CZ frame did not feel anywhere as good as the 9mm 1911, it didn’t shoot as well as this gun, and (completely unrelated to performance) holy Christ this is a gorgeous gun.
All things said this is more of an informational piece than a full review because I’m bored and haven’t posted much here lately. So here’s some thoughts on a gun that a lot of people discredit or don’t even think about. I love it and if you get a chance, you should try one out.
