Remember that post where I was whining about my dead Cybook? Well, I now have a Kindle and it's in part thanks to one of my aunts who gave me some money as my Bday and Xmas gift from last year, and also partly thanks to @FernandoMigueI without whom I wouldn't be able to buy it online.
Since I don't have a credit card nor money in paypal, etc. my friend did me the favor of placing the order for me with the promise I'd afterwards give him the money (and I always keep my promises, even if not right away).
The Kindle arrived this week and a lot of other tweeps helped me fill it with ebook goodness (in order of appearance: @janita_lima @feantur @sandrortavares @_tita_ @White_Lady @Cat_SaDiablo @tchetcha @marcogmonteiro and @flaviocfneto), so now I have books to read for 4 years or more (which won't stop me from wanting more, of course *blushes*).
My Kindle didn't came with a power adapter. That's ok, because: 1. I can always charge it with usb and 2. My smartphone came with one, so I can always use that one if I ever need to (I probably won't, though)! Mwahaha!
So far, I'm loving this device. I feel a bit dirty because of Amazon's love affair with DRM but:
1. It was the cheapest I could have with E-ink technology, and I didn't have money to buy something else;
2. My current library of more than 400 ebooks proves that even with DRM around I've been able to, in some way, dodge it and still have a lot of goodies;
3. This device is absolutely awesome! Especially when compared to my previous one, the Cybook that kept on crashing every 3 pages or so.
The Kindle is lighter and thinner than Cybook and, so far, works perfectly. The pages refresh quickly and seamlessly; I can change the size of the font, direction, etc. and if I wish I can share what I'm reading with twitter. It doesn't heat up and in the back there's rubber, so it absorbs the impact when I place it on the desk after reading - which when I'm sleepy can be a bit of a rough impact.
When combined with the really cool ebook management app called Calibre (that among other features lets you use a plugin with which you can manage Kindle collections on the PC, btw) this sure is heaven!
Finally, I'd also like to say that DHL, the company that brought the Kindle to me, did a marvelous job. My device came blazing fast (2 days) from the states (actually came from China, lol) all in one piece and when the customs in Portugal where delaying the delivery they called me to ask for details in order to speed things up. They also sent me an sms on the delivery day, letting me know it was about to happen. After the horror stories I've heard about other companies, I think DHL deserves some props here too. Oh, and Amazon itself as well, for their sleek and compact packaging. Wow!
All in all, I'm a happy Kindle user and Amazon customer, now. See the picture above, if you still have any doubts after reading this! :D
