What does your OC's Dream Visitor look like, and why?

Thank you for the tag @spillingteanotpermitted! I don't have a solid answer for all of my ocs tbh, but Cyril and Nyx both have solid answers, and for almost the same reason. I am going to pass it on to @onlytavs @malicedragoness @citruskushh @mein-liebling @mogruith @irondeficienttav and @optimisticgrey . No pressure! I honestly have no idea who has all done this one already either, so apologies if I double tagged you by accident.

Cyril has had four different dream guardians in various runs, starting with Adin. My first run as Cyril he wasn't fully modded yet nor was he fully fleshed out yet. It was an honor run where I had no body tattoos yet and I wore the wrong wings for half of it, but I had thought it would be fun to make it Adin. I think even Nyx's first run was Adin as well. For a while he's all I did.

The next couple of runs I made the dream guardian either a rip off of Cyric (I don't have a picture of this) or Jaheria. Both of these were after I got the tattoos and wings, and both were done with the same idea in mind. The dream guardian wants someone Cyril will trust, and there are very few people who he would. Unfortunately for the Emperor, Cyril isn't falling for those games.

Finally I realized what I want to real answer to be: Minsc. He believes Minsc is dead or lost to him forever so of course a part of him is going to hope that somehow, some way, Minsc is back and helping him. Except this dream is wrong. Minsc is wrong. And even when Cyril wakes up, Boo would know something is wrong. And Cyril would know deep down whatever that was, it wasn't his ranger.

And of course... No matter who the Emperor decides to take the shape of, Cyril ultimately would still be aware that it is really just mind flayer fuckery.

That being said... Power is power... And if he's doomed to be a mind flayer anyways... Why not take any advantage he can get?

I didn't have the Notable Guardians mod at the time of taking this, but Nyx's Dream Guardian is the only person she cares about (other than Orin) at the start of the game: Enver Gortash. She doesn't remember him, at least not when the Dream Guardian uses his face, but it feels familiar... Safe. So for a while, Nyx trusts the Dream Guardian...

Then you cut to where she sees the real Gortash with Ketheric and Orin, and she realizes she's been tricked. The Dream Guardian isn't on her side at all, and has been using the face of someone she once knew.

So after that, she stops listening to the Emperor. Though I am not sure listening to Gale's ambitions or the tyrant himself is better... But at least it's what she actually wants to do for once.

Thank you so much for the ask! I've been answering everything pretty much for these main two ocs, Adin and Cyril, so I'll keep with that theme and do that here. If you or anyone else is interested in any side ocs feel free to ask away or specify, but these two have the most lore and I have been super excited to lore dump for my fellow bg3 tumblr users!

3. How did you choose their name?

To be honest when I decided on his appearance and had made a drow druid, I just looked up drow names and went through a few websites until I found one that I liked. "Adin" is technically a prefix that I just never added a suffix to, and it means 'Beast, monstrous, savage'. I chose it because of him being a druid and it's a bit cliché maybe but it stuck and I'm not changing it now! Daevion'lyr was chosen purely because it sounded cool with Adin's name, and then it has evolved to that would have maybe been his father's original House name which Adin took when he left, leaving behind the Lolth-sworn family name that he would have gotten from his mother.

9. Are they based off of you, in some way?

Well, originally yes. Adin was made as a self insert my first playthrough. I didn't play him as if he was me, he always had his own personality, but he was what I wanted to look if I were to be thrown into Faerûn. A lot of him is non-modded due to his original creation being back before mods came out on console, but I have since added some tattoo mods and color mods to add slight changes to Adin's overall appearance.

18. What is the most recent thing you've discovered about your OC?

I've been doing a lot of deep dives into lore for both drow and Cyric for both OCs lately and it's lead me down some interesting paths to add to their lore. Recently I learned about House Insignia rings, and learned one of the possible enchants on them could allow a drow or maybe say... a vampire... walk in the sun. It's an old drow cleric spell that provides protection from sun sensitivity. In dnd standards the spell lasts for 10 minutes.

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?

As an archdruid, Adin would eventually have the feature "Timeless Body" which would allow him to live 10x as long as a typical drow. I found this out months after creating Adin specifically for Astarion, and it just reinforced my headcanon that Adin is Astarion's soulmate. They have a possible 7500 years together, if they don't somehow find a way to make Adin immortal before then. I get so much joy from finding more and more reasons why Adin and Astarion mesh so well together.

3. How did you choose their name?

Cyril was a concept I came up with because I took a liking to Cyric as a deity. Originally I was going to make a daughter of Cyric, and that morphed into a son instead. Funny enough I remember more of the naming process than the character design process. I was making food one day in the kitchen, standing by our air fryer and reading about Cyric lore. I got the vibes of Loki but more narcissistic, so I started playing around with Cyric's own name. I figured he'd be the type to name his own kid after him. After some play with different letters and pronunciations, I landed on Cyril. Cyril isn't pronounced the same as Cyric however. Instead it's closer to Suh-rill or Sih-rill. I pronounce the y like the i in "ick".

9. Are they based off of you, in some way?

Cyril's inspiration almost entirely came from outside sources. The only ways he would really be based off of me is the utter obsession with Gale Dekarios and his body dysphoria. I'm guilty of always feeling larger than I am and uncomfortable in my own skin, especially as I gain weight or if I am seen certain ways due to gender roles. Cyril wasn't always a super large buff aasimar, and the change from his old self to his new self never really settled with him right. Post-Game he explores that a bit more with some encouragement from Gale and Astarion.

18. What is the most recent thing you've discovered about your OC?

Adding on to the body dysphoria thought I started above, one of the most recent things I actually learned about them is that Cyril is genderfluid. I made what I was going to have be an AU where Cyril is a lady instead, just as I had originally intended, and rather than make it a whole AU I kind of decided to lean into the fact that one of Cyril's main inspirations is Loki, and just have it so post-game Cyril starts to kind of just flip back and forth between genders as they see fit.

If we want to go more into lore-related things, I recently learned there were things called "Spell Scars" during the spellplague that some people were about to use to cast certain spells like misty step at the cost of pain to themselves. The scars were sometimes glyphs or jagged lines, and Cyril happens to have a few pretty deep scars on his face that I gave him in character design and hadn't yet given a purpose. The one that is specifically dark across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose would be a possible good one to make into a spell scar, as he would have lived through the spellplague.

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?

To pick a favorite for Cyril.. A lot of the facts about him relate to Cyric directly, but I think my favorite two things about him would probably be...

Being conceived and born while Cyric was still actively the god of murder, tyranny, and death means that Cyril gets an interesting mix of traits all from the Dead Three. He has urges similarly to a Bhaalspawn, only more directed toward "enemies of Cyric" than just anyone; he has the need to make others submit, especially those enemies he chooses to spare (ex. Gale who is the Chosen of Mystra, Osiris being that he is the Dark Urge, and Gortash being the Chosen of Bane); and he has a specialty in necrotic magic thus him being a death domain cleric.

The reason Cyril exists is almost entirely to strengthen his father. From the moment he first speaks to his father when he is still a young child, he is told he is supposed to act on behalf of his father. If the dead three should ever rise again, he is to slay them and reclaim their domains. His father trains him for this purpose, and even gives him things like Godsbane, and tells him where to find Touch of Cyric when the time comes to do so. Despite all of this, Cyril does not want Godhood, and would much prefer a domestic life with a loving partner.

Now it's time to find out just who Cyrillus Veylthorne d'Antiverre is.

Name: Cyrillus Veylthorne d'Antiverre

Nickname: Cyril (mostly known as, in other words)

Species: Robot, artificial intelligence

Path: Nihility

Element: Imaginary

Rarity: 5★

Cyril was made in a lab of a group of the Genius Society. Lucien Ahahbourne, #37, made him in the perspective of 'creating a being as intellectual as the human mind'.

He perfected a creation at last, number 308, and named him Cyrillus Veylthorne d'Antiverre. Ashbourne viewed Cyril as a miracle, proof that his endless research and experiments were not in vain. Though to most Geniuses, creating a robot would be nothing to fuss about, though Dr. Ashbourne dedicated years to this particular project, perfecting every aspect until he was fully satisfied.

He developed Cyril's mentality, explaining the world's sole principles and keeping him under his wing– as a new memeber.

The thing is that during 308's creation, Dr. Ashbourne failed to set a suitable personality for him. Not that there was anything wrong with him, no, but rather the fact that the robot got attached too deeply to whatever he took a liking to.

This obsessive nature was something Dr. Ashbourne wished to change, tinker with and alter. As he was consulting a trusted acquaintance, another happened to overhear their conversation. They went and did the opposite, worsening Cyril's settings then told him what they heard.

Due to his undeveloped grasp of reality and strong 'personality', Cyril, now altered from his initial coding went haywire, wrecking the facility.

To the altered robot, this felt like a stab in the back, or well– maybe cutting each wire from his metallic body.

Ultimately his robotic abilities paired with the ongoing experimental products, such as chemicals resorted in a violent flame, thus reducing the building to ash.

Among the fallen Geniuses' and their research were digital records, mostly all gone or buried under debris. Though the Geniuses had stored the results of their investigations elsewhere, too. Some being archived at the Herta Space station meant their work had not been gone forevermore.

Now Cyrillus roams the cosmos in hopes of grasping the term 'humanity'. He puts up a noble front– charming yet calculating.

He refuses to be related to any faction, especially the Genius Society. He doesn't hold much respect for any of them, especially Screwllum considering he's also inhumane yet is readily respected amongst humans.

The IPC have their eyes on him though he refutes with sugar laced venom dripping words, avoiding their 'foolish' schemes.

He appears in the Penacony arc, for a number of reasons:

1. Fascination with Dreams

He can't sleep or dream. Penacony offers him the closest thing to 'human imagination',

He sneaks in the Reverie hotel to steal dreams.

2. Hunting Artifacts

Penacony is a tourist attraction, full of cultural relics, luxurious decor, and art. Cyril's eye for porcelain, stamps, and elegance would drag him there out of curiosity.

3. Testing his 'Perfection'

The Dreamscape bends to one's mind. Cyril being artificial doesn't dream, so what happens when he manages to enter?

He might want to prove his superiority

"Even in a world of dreamers, I remain uncorrupted by fantasies."

He would have beef with The Family, and would evade the IPC so smoothly I tell you.

Cyril's opinion on the known Geniuses is humourous to me cause he's neutral about Herta, somewhat interested in her puppets since they remind him of himself. Would sneer at her “number rankings” of importance — he was 308 once, and he hates being reduced to a number.

“Your toys don’t scream when you discard them, do they, odd.”

Lowkey criticising the puppets like a connoisseur of the fine arts.

Dislikes Ruan Mei. Not only did she try to create a lifeform that could naturally embody a Path but the Path in question was Propagation.

Propagation.

The swarm? Bugs? Tayzzyronth? Nope, he's out.

On top of that she left her creations behind at the space station before TB resolved everything.

Now that hits too close to home. Oh wait... what home?

Now... Screwllum. Oh brother.

He loathes Screwllum. Pure rivalry. Screwllum is respected, welcomed by the Genius Society, an accepted “automaton with a soul.” Cyril sees him as the golden child — the proof that he was the mistake.

He’d try to undermine Screwllum’s calm rationality with taunts and condescension, but deep down, Cyril is insecure because Screwllum embodies everything he can’t be.

In conclusion he's js insecure about his own predicament to appreciate another's.

CYRIL FACTS!!!

He likes stamps, has a wide collection of them from every place and planet he's ever visited

Porcelain collection. Teacups, ceramics, plates, vases, glasses, decorations, you name it

Hates bugs. If he ever spots a bug on his precious collection, whether it'd be porcelain or stamps, his metallic eye'll twitch and his arm would tyrn into a laser to exterminate the 'filth'

This means he HATES the Propagation and Tayzzyronth with all his being

He likes the teacup aesthetic since he thinks it would be soothing to drink a hot brew of tea but unfortunately he can't consume human food so he just collects and observes.

Has a system jamming function which he uses to blick data or other machines for defense or maybe even a form of infiltration
