“I cannot believe you took me to Burger King.” Tessa could barely hold her laughter in.
“I don’t know why you’re so surprised. I told you I was taking you there.” Will shrugged.
“You told me you were taking me to Le Roi Burger.”
“Which in French translates to...” He smirked.
Tessa shook her head and laughed. “Ignoring that awkward misunderstanding,” he laughed. “It was a pretty good date.”
“I learned a lot about you.” She put her hand on his arm.
“I learned a lot about you too.” He held a finger up for everyone he had learned about. “There’s your brother Nate...”
“And that’s about it.” She interrupted him. “Does anyone else really count if they’re dead?”
He looked away. “They’re the ones that count the most.” He looked up at her and smirked. “Did you memorize all of mine?”
“Wait, let’s see if I got everything right.” She pulled on his arm and he immediately stopped dead in his tracks. “There’s Charlotte, family friend and owner of the house that you live in. Henry, her husband. Sophie, who’s technically a part of the family but refuse sto live as a free-loader which caused her to work as a maid in the house. Jessamine, an orphan that came to live with Charlotte because she too is a family friend. Bridget, the cook. Cyril, the chauffeur - even though I’m still not sure if you’re serious about that or just mocking me. And Jem, your best friend.”
He held up his hands. Wow, Jem is not just my best friend. He’s my soulmate. The reason I live for. My Sun, and moon and my stars.”
Tessa crossed her arms. “Are you sure you’re on a date with the right person?”
Will dismissively waved his hands. “Jem and I are strictly platonic. It’s purely a bromance.”
She laughed. “Guess I’ll have to see you two together to form an opinion then.”
They started walking again. “You joke, but i would love for you to meet him. All of them actually. They would love you.”
“They sound like wonderful people so I’m not entirely opposed to the idea.”
She hugged herself. “This was our first date.”
He scratched the back of his head. “I know but there’s a part of me that feels like I’ve known you my whole life.”
She smiled. “Me too.” He looked at her and she immediately looked away blushing. They reached her building and she quickly went up the few steps to the front door. “Well, I guess this is goodnight then.”
She put a hand on his arm again. “I had a lot of fun. I really hope we can do this again.”
“Tomorrow?” His blue eyes were wide with hope.
SHe laughed. “I was thinking about Wednesday. We could have lunch, maybe see a movie?”
He sighed. “I would love to.”
And awkward silence settled between them. The one and only all night. “Good night!” She said, in a tone a lot higher than her usual voice.
“Good night!” He said almost shouting. They both laughed and looked away. She took the opportunity of him not looking at her to give him a kiss on the cheek. Without looking back she entered the building and started going up the floors. She stopped halfway and leaned against the wall. Putting a hand on her racing heart, she squealed. Then she froze. She had never squealed before in her life. Shaking her head she continued up until she entered her apartment.
Inside were her brother and his friends, smoke all over the air. She huffed and closed the door, hittinf a few empty beer bottles. She tried to go straight to her room but her brother’s voice stopped her. “I said that I wanted you home by eleven.”
“It’s eleven fifiteen.” She said without turning.
“Don’t break my rules ever again. Next time I won’t be so forgiving.” Not wasting any other second she went into her room and shut the door. Leaning against it, she felt tears prickling her eyes. She dropped down onto the floor and let them run down her cheeks. “What a great ending for a perfect night.” She said out loud, before dropping her head on her knees and crying herslef to sleep.
