i know!!!!!! i am really loving this dynamic so far! but on the other hand, i'll be upset if it entirely replaces the interactions they both have with the wondergirls during this portion of the books (especially because min NEEDS female friends in order to overcome the Not Like Other Girls/One Of The Boys vibes and per her book story she never has another chance to make any, though i'm certainly expecting her to spend more time with elayne & avi in the show during later seasons). but there are still plenty of episodes left so there's time for them to encounter the wondergirls! at the very least i'm sure everybody will all meet at falme

Yeah if anything this isn’t as bad as it could have been?? For me at least when I’m reading I can kind of gloss over what I already know is problematic but having to watch it is a whole different experience lmao

Oh is it time for CQL ace headcanons? There's already a Wangxian one better explained elsewhere so may I instead submit: Ace Nie Huaisang. Okay, okay, it's not supported by canon and the kid has an eclectic porn collection, but hear me out: the porn is art. He thinks Wangji is pretty and dignified but not /hot/, not in the way Wuxian does. He probably recs porn like "check out the ink wash technique on pg3. sublime."

I love this headcanon! 

Love the idea of a Nie Huaisang who is firmly in the ‘ace does not mean oblivious’ camp (it’s a good camp; we have marshmallows). There are many forms of art! People are beautiful! He can admire the aesthetics of the body without wanting to do anything with it! And being the keeper of the porn collection means you can probably get other people to do your homework for you, so that’s an added bonus.

...look, recommending the lymond books is possible an even more life-ruining move than recommending this show to people; there are six of them, they are 800 pages long apiece, and you will spend the first half of the first book muttering ‘what the fuck’ to yourself and frantically opening wiki tabs about scottish history in an effort to stay afloat. 

but they are I N C R E D I B L E and an absolute fucking masterclass in several aspects of novel-writing, and the titular hero is simultaneously a punchable little shit and a tragic, hilarious, mercurial genius. so. enjoy.

I'm sorry if that's not actually a serious question but uh. If it is: consider having a checkup? I endured something similar for years before I got simple bloodwork done. It was severe, "my god how are you still standing" (my doctor's words) anemia. Might not be the same case as yours, but a routine check-up is a good place to start.

I’ve had bloodwork done before because of another issue I had, and was repeatedly told that it’s normal. I know I have blood pressure that’s on the lower edge of normal, but not like... critically low. So... I really don’t know, feels weird to just go into a checkup tbh.

Imo it's probably a little of both. I mean his idea of getting XXC back was making him his zombie bf, after all, and it was clear in the novel that the reason it didn't work was there was no (whole) soul. Buuut Xue Yang seemed...upset (or whatever his version of that is) when WWX taunted him about wanting to bring XXC back just to "play" with him, so maybe you're right that his motives have changed (maybe a little) over the years.

And although he was torturing XXC with ~finally the truth~ I don’t think that he ever wanted XXC to die in the first place, he looked horrified and shocked when he killed himself.  He wasn’t trying to bring him back because he wanted him to be a zombie, but, in this one! case, as opposed to all the other zombies!, because he wanted to bring XXC back, however he could get him.

... of course he was already manipulating Xiao Xincheng, and for some time without Xiao Xincheng being conscious of said manipulations, but ~there’s still a difference~ and he wanted to manipulate someone who was still a person, not a zombie.  Zombie boyfriend is second best ;).

Haha agreed and I 'ship' them this way as well. Like "wow that's fucked up but it's so Greek tragedy love triangle-y that it would be interesting to see what fandom makes of it". There should be thousands of words alone on that scene of XY cleaning the body, setting the table, and waiting for his zombie bf to wake up, only to break down spectacularly when he doesn't. (I think this was made worse/better in the novel coz zombie SL was in the same room at the time.)

It is SO FUCKING Greek tragedy.  A hero-type killing people without knowing it!  (This applies to both XXC and SL in different ways!)  But still being/feeling culpable!  Being unable to let your lost-and-found loved one know of your presence/identity!  And, of course, vengeance as what counts as close to a happy ending as you’re gonna get.

Also here to thank you for the alternate sex scenes translations. It's becoming clear, to me at least, that ExR took MXTX's use of yaoi-ish/BL tropes (which she often subverts) and played them straight.

Yeah I honestly don’t think you could look at MDZS in isolation and then name what the tropes of BL/yaoi are with any reliability.  Like WWX and LWJ really don’t fit a seme/uke stereotype nearly at all, despite them taking (as far as we see) consistent top/bottom roles sexually.  But WWX is hardly a passive, soft, shy person.  He’s the freaking Dark Lord for most of the cultivation world, the scary bedtime story!  

Anyway, I’ve actually got more to say on the subject since I’ve been reminded of an alternate version of the Ch 111 scene...

right?? omg I’m glad it’s not just me, bc watching cgl i spent a lot of time wanting to smack jin ling but in the donghua it’s like, this kid is a brat but he’s also pretty badass

and jiang cheng, aside from being more badass, imo is so much more human in the donghua which is nuts bc you’re supposed to get that nuance from the live action, not the other way around
