Nobody can think of in character nicknames that Mac would have for the human? Lucky for you guys, I’m really nerdy and freaked up about computers. I think Mac would call you ‘Liveware’, not only is this nickname teasing but it is also was used in the computer industry as early as 1966 to refer to computer users, often in joking contexts by analogy with hardware and software. Not only is this showing Mac’s more playful side as seen in some of their dialogue, it’s also used to denote people using (or being attached to) computers while being based on the need for liveware (a human) to operate the system using hardware and software and being a part of the process. There’s also a couple alternatives/words that mean the same thing and work in the same vein, such as wetware, meatware and jellyware.

Harrison is a vigilante, Dexter is a guy who purely murders murderers and or innocent people by accident unless they get in his way. I like that distinction because making Harrison actually just like Dexter while ignoring the fact that Dexter is the way he is because of his mother’s death AND Harry’s parenting goes against lots of the main morals and points of the franchise. Harrison is different, Hannah raised him, probably not the best but if it was just Dexter, Harrison would be so much more emotionally constipated and micro-managed to the point of insanity. I hope Harrison’s plot revolves around breaking the cycle of parental co-dependency and his uncoded vigilantism, I know they sort of do the parental baby thing in New Blood a little, but knowing Dexter’s ass, he's going to try to mother, shun away and code Harrison again while also seeking comfort and support from him in obedience, which will and can never happen because Dexter doesnt know what normal teenagers feel towards their parents.

Also I really hope they’ll touch on the fact that Dexter is co-dependent on Harrison, not the other way around, because he is at this point. As soon as Harrison came back, Dexter decided he was going to lean on him for emotional support and solace, not knowing that his teenage son is possibly the worst person to turn to when you want a sensible, comforting person with you.

Brian also eats while he drives which is a funny little quirk that ties all the parallels together i think

also very unimportant to note but Brian also eats in nebraska even though he’s a hallucination. even more unimportantly, Brian eats something that is either fast food or a full meal in like 50% of the scenes you see him in, showing that he has the same tendencies to drown out his ‘emptiness’ (loneliness and dissatisfaction put together from how it’s described) with food.

Homelander was by all intents and purposes, mentally a child when he died. He was so emotionally disregulated and neglected than in those final moments, all he was capable of being was that boy in the lab, that boy who had his heart ripped from his chest for wanting to be held.

In moments of anger and upset, that boyish tone slips out, his voice goes up and breaks and that facade of what a man should look and sound like is broken just for a moment, never long enough for anyone to notice. He lies so well that he believes it himself at times but he wants desperately for someone to see through those lies and truly look at him.

To see him, flaws, horrible deeds, bones and all and love him all the same but nobody ever will because there was nothing to love at all. Inside, he feels hollow and empty and that nobody will ever care for him and unfortunately he’s right because he’s not a person to anyone else but himself, he’s a lab experiment, he’s a hero, he’s a villain, he’s a father, he’s an enemy and he’s an ally but he’s never a person.

Of course, he was a horrible person who did terrible things but he was the product of that horribleness rather than the source of it. He couldn’t leave, he couldn’t do anything if it wasn’t in the bounds of what he knew before that and it was literally in his brain chemistry to be that way.

John died alone and so so very scared and in those final moments, he wanted to find at least one person who understood him. Not liked him, not cared for him, because nobody ever did that; but saw him and all he found was Butcher’s hate for what he’d done to Becca so he switches back on that persona of the ‘man’, the patriot and the ‘hero’ and in those final moments, all he did was pretend.

Harrison having curly hair in Resurrection shows that Harrison inherited the same curly hair genes as Brian which is not only a punch in the gut but also clever easily overlooked symbolism. they use Brian’s physical attributes such as his haircut, the curly hair and Harrison’s general outfit design to convey similarity in characteristics, behaviour and personality between the two.

here are my paragraphs upon paragraphs on how Brian and Harrison are more similar than Dexter and Harrison despite Harrison’s fixation on morality.

they both find Dexter and his code to be hypocrisy, they both see that Dexter enjoys the kill, he doesn’t just tolerate it and they both believe you cannot kill for good, you only kill for yourself. Harrison and Brian are equally impulsive, they overlook small details for the big picture and strive for something more than the kill, they strive for the meaning behind it, the warning behind it. they kill people who they view as worse or lower than themselves, Brian with prostitutes and Harrison with predators.

Brian and Harrison are both abrasive, sarcastic and extremely independent to the point of refusing to be helped, they’re both extremely sensitive to rejection and flip on a fucking dime even when just Dexter’s tone changes. they’re also both aggressive as hell even if they can’t win, Brian attacks Angel when he is outweighed and outperformed by him, Harrison attacks Ryan even though Ryan is bigger and stronger than him and they both only get the upper hand when weapons are involved.

they both have an extremely distorted sense of self, Harrison believes he is evil and unjustified in everything he does, he is constantly guilty and sympathetic towards others and he even feels bad about killing a rapist. on the completely other side of the spectrum, Brian believes he is righteous in what he is doing, that the innocent people he’s murdered are a necessary evil and stepping stones to his ultimate goal of Dexter, he believes he’s evil in an objective sense, yes, but he also believes he’s right.

they both have a fear of abandonment, but different attachment styles because of it. Brian clings desperately to the idea of Dexter and them one day having a brotherhood together, he cannot accept that his brother is not the idealised version of him that Brian made in his head, he is completely adoring of the version of his brother he has imagined and stuffs all of Dexter’s actions into that casing. Harrison clings at first, like his life depends on it, he adores and compliments and respects his shiny new idea of his father, absolutely loving his father until he begins to see the truth. the illusion is broken and Harrison becomes avoidant and afraid to be abandoned again, he pushes Dexter away while desperately wanting his father to come after him and comfort him while also not wanting him to do either.

Harrison is very dissociative and drowns himself in substances to stop himself from thinking too deeply as well but is a story for another time. i’ve noticed Brian does seem very dissociative in the background of some shots but there’s just simply not enough screen time for me to do a comparison between Harrison’s very obvious dissociative behaviour and Brian’s wall-eyed look in the background of his old house.

don’t even get me started on both their simultaneous superiority and inferiority complexes, that will take days or weeks. pukes and falls over

TLDR; bpd uncle and bpd nephew have way more in common than bpd + npd son and aspd + npd father. i love you Harrison my righteous bitchy guilty asshole guy. guess my favourite character (you’ll never get it)
