'Good news!' Draft2Digital tells me when I log in, 'You can add your books to Bookshop.org now'.
I click the button to do so.
D2D: 😱🤮❌❌❌ BLOCKED BLOCKED BLOCKED Not THOSE books! They're full of icky sex and mature themes! Ew! Gross! We can't let Bookshop.org know we technically allow you to publish that! What will Mastercard think?? Won't anybody think of the shareholders??
Me: Yeah, that's what I thought you'd say, you stupid horse.
Nice how the boilerplate message suggests my books are low quality, but the actual reasons they were blocked are:
Erotica
Nonconsent
Dubious consent
Although the only one that's pure erotica (Oviposition) is the only one not tagged as erotica? While my sweet love story, An Unexpected Attachment, is only barred for being 'erotica'. Like, yes, it contains sex, but it's really about soft boys falling in love and having fully consensual, carefully negotiated sex.
Meanwhile, on Bookshop.org...
I am so done with my books being blocked and delisted when George R R Martin is out there writing all the shit that goes on in A Song of Ice and Fire. Somehow, I don't think it's really about the sexual content, or even the noncon, you know?
Also? Only one of my books is fucking noncon - not that it should matter!
Anyway, all my scandalous and shameful filth is available from Smashwords, for now...
Ruby Jones writes romance and erotica rooted in rich characters. She explores the erotic in the intoxicating environment of speculative genr
And I would really appreciate reblogs, because I honestly don't know how people are supposed to find my shit anymore.
Look, I'm one of the people who has managed to somehow hurtle over the $100 threshold for D2D (but not by a comfortable amount tbh).
It won't be sustainable for me to stay on there if I don't put out at least a book every year, especially considering I'm being laid off from my job at the end of the month. And I'm in the middle of a move. And like... I don't have a partner I can rely on financially in order to pursue writing full time to have a better chance at reaching that milestone every twelve months.
If I have to, I'll pull my books and list them individually (and painfully) on every retail site they were available previously (except Smashwords, which is ONLY through D2D). Tax forms and all.
I'd been planning to publish directly on Kobo, but this really puts me in a position to either leave D2D completely because that would take a chunk out of potential future sales to meet that D2D requirement or to remain stuck on D2D for everything besides the 'zon, which honestly sucks.
The one thing I won't do is go back to Kindle Select/Kindle Unlimited. I made more on D2D than I was ever able to make with 2 books in the program over ~7 months. I can't go back.
You asked me my thoughts, but may I know more of your Portia and Quibly thoughts? /nf
I am ALWAYS down to ramble about SDRA
Soilers for SDRA and D2D below, along with heavy speculation about SDRA S2!
I think this relationship is really interesting because it was developed in simultaniously in two very different settings and situations and it's unclear how connected the two campaigns are. We know their dynamic pretty well from D2D, and I love them, but I am curious how that will translate to SDRA.
In D2D when Portia refused to stay behind while Quibly went to fight the Colossus, so in hindsight it's strange that she would let Quibly go without her to carry out such an instrumental part of the plan to start a war. Of course, the LoA crew couldn't have known that at the time, because Portia was just a joke and thier relationship hadn't been explored yet. However, it makes me think that either Glup was an extremely trusted friend to them or Portia was busy with something else.
A couple of incredibly #nothingburger trad doodles ft my interpretations of abe solomon and grinnin jack boothe :3c
Draft2Digital is removing the "pay what you want" option from Smashwords. So I fear soon the only option to offer pay what you want for "Zeus and Hera" is my payhip shop:
The story of how Hera finally agreed to fuck Zeus. It's free to read on my website, and the eBook version is a gift to celebrate the Theogami
Most people pay $0 and that's OK, the story is available online for free, but for those who WANT to tip me, I like the "pay what you want" option and I'm sad that Draft2Digital decided to remove it.
Right now, Zeus & Hera's first time is still pay what you want on Smashwords:
Hera has refused Zeus many, many, MANY times. Will his newest attempt be more successful? 1700 word erotic short story.
Well… this is frustrating.
I’ve been publishing my writing through Amazon since around 2017/2018, and last year I decided to expand to other platforms. Draft2Digital seemed like a great, simple way to distribute my books more widely without a lot of extra hassle.
AI has made the landscape a lot messier for actual human creators. There’s been a surge of AI-generated books flooding the market, and now it looks like some companies are responding by introducing fees for independent authors just to get their work out there.
I’ll need to rethink how I’m distributing my writing, because this model doesn’t really work for me right now. Paying an annual fee if I don’t sell enough copies just doesn’t sit right, especially when books take up so little digital space.
While I figure out my next steps and continue working on future projects, feel free to check out and share my work. If you're new to my writing, I'm a genre blender leaning into a dark gothic feel while embracing urban fantasy, science fiction, and post-apocalyptic themes. Give these interesting nightmares a home. You can grab a book at:
ElfLinks.Weebly.com
If you’re not sure where to start, Making Contact is a shorter read and a great entry point involving an important recurring character in my works, while Shadowed Memories leads into the story I’m currently outlining.
doomed 2 die is actually kinda shit
the fucking owner of the game hates my guts and revoked my rights for drawing juggernaut with a tail... wow!!!!
posting the shit HERE since if i post it in the server its a bannable offence
