WIP Wednesday - Bellara Week Edition

I have been working on my piece for @datvcompanionweeks’ Bellara Week 2026! Though…I have a confession. On top of my usual nerves about writing things outside my normal comfort zone, as it were, I am also wildly behind. But I will do my best! 😅

Some stuff from Bellara Week below the cut!

“Do you…what languages do you speak?” Bellara asked.

“Ehn,” Rook shrugged as she came back. She was smiling but it was…sad. “Trade, some Tevene, a little Rivaini…no Elvish though, if that’s what you’re asking.”

Fenedhis. Well, she guessed it had been pretty obvious what she’d been getting at, and that was embarrassing. Bellara felt heat in her ears.

“That’s, I mean…I wasn’t…I wouldn’t…”

Some spark came into Rook’s eyes as Bellara stumbled over her words. “Wouldn’t call me a flat-ear?“

Bellara couldn’t help grimacing at the term. “No! No, I would never….no one should.”

There was that silence again, where Bellara felt like she was being studied. Was this what her artifacts felt like when she looked at them? They probably felt worse, really, since she didn’t think Rook was going to pull out a tool and take her apart.

“Don’t worry,” Rook finally said. “I know you wouldn’t. It was more a joke than anything else.

“But thanks.”

Bellara let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. “Good! Great! Okay, uh….do you want to see what I’ve been working on?”

Maybe not the most fluid change in subject, but Bellara didn’t really have another. Luckily, this time Rook’s smile was brighter. “Sure. Tell me about Solas’ magic mirror.”
