Larius is a former Warden-Commander of the Free Marches, now tainted and residing in the Grey Wardens prison tower in the Vimmark Mountains.

Janeka is a seasoned Grey Warden who was given command of the Warden prison in the Vimmark Mountains after Warden-Commander Larius left for his Calling.[1]

Janeka wishes to control Corypheus using blood magic and use his magic to end the Blights, but Larius claims Corypheus is using the Calling to manipulate her. Janeka will reveal that Larius forced Malcolm Hawke to become a blood mage or he would never see Leandra again.

Eventually Hawke must choose between Larius and Janeka regarding what to do with Corypheus. Larius argues for killing him as the seals keeping him imprisoned are deteriorating, whereas Janeka wishes to free him, confident that she can use blood magic to control him and use him as a weapon to end the Blights.

Either way Corypheus will be released and attacks.

Despite Larius’ obvious corruption, Hawke heeded the former Warden and worked to prevent Janeka from freeing the imprisoned darkspawn.

Janeka is killed instantly by Larius, and the three remaining Grey Wardens will leave to alert the rest of the order about the situation.

If he survived when Hawke speaks to Larius after the battle with Corypheus, the former Warden-Commander explains that he has more clarity now that the darkspawn is dead and he can no longer hear him. He repeatedly thanks Hawke for his freedom. As he is walking away from the Champion, he smiles sinisterly.

2. Sided with Janeka

Unable to fully trust Larius, Hawke supported Janeka’s theory and worked with her to free the imprisoned darkspawn.

 Larius will be killed by Janeka who will then send the three Wardens to guard the bridge.

Fenris had been surprised when Hawke invited him to accompany her. And even more surprised to see Bethany and Varric in tow, chattering to one another, as Hawke grinned and told him to pack enough gear for several nights. Call it a family outing, she’d said brightly, after briefing him on her latest misadventure. Family. Fenris cannot remember having a family. Though he searches for his sister, she may as well be a ghost for all he has discovered so far. Isabela and Aveline have pulled strings and come up short so far. Soon Fenris will have to involve the dwarf. But he is reluctant, for surely if anyone is going to spill the truth to Hawke it would be Varric. They are close, he knows. Like family. Fenris has often laid awake at night, wondering why he feels he must keep this personal mission secret from Hawke. Perhaps Fenris does not want Hawke to know because she has already given him so much. And he is not only talking about that night in her bed, all those weeks ago… Perhaps it is simply that to tell Hawke of this would make it real somehow. Fenris can picture her smile grow brighter, how she would fill up with hope for him. Filling his head with possibilities, that he might once have had a life, a family…when all he has is an address on a piece of paper and name. This is all far too fragile for that. So no, he does not want Hawke’s optimism nor her hope. Not when he has already lost so much. He cannot bear the thought of grasping for yet another connection, only to feel it slipping through his fingers once again.

The same spot, thirty years apart.

Featuring my idea of how Malcolm looked c. 9:05 Dragon. At some point I need to draw him around the time of his death. In Oliver's canon he's an elf, so Oliver's elf-blooded/half-elf. I know that's supposed to mean he'd look human without elven features, but it's more fun to go a little more along the lines of like dnd half elves.

I drew this back in April, but I went back and forth on posting it. But I've had thoughts(tm) on Legacy. It gives us such a distillation of the issues that the Hawke/Amell family has, and it gives you so much to really chew on. It's why I always like to take Carver or Bethany. It really feels like a story where both siblings need to be present.

Oliver's got...a complicated relationship with his parents. And I honestly think Malcolm and Leandra had a lot of unresolved issues. It wasn't intentional, but it negatively affected their kids. This specific line that you get when you go through Malcolm's memories in the Grey Warden prison cuts DEEP. It was never anything Malcolm would ever imagine his child would hear. But Oliver did hear it, and now he has to grapple with the fact that Malcolm had said that.

Plus, I put Legacy in the act 2/3 timeskip in Oliver's canon. So all of this is after Leandra's death.

I don't know, this got long, I have a lot of thoughts about the Hawkes.
