Knock Knock
I wrote this extremely short story forever ago and finally decided to post it here. Sorry if there are any mistakes, I’m too cold to fix it.
Warnings: A dad joke
Patton smiled when he heard the soft thuds coming down the stairs and a small child came into view. The tiny boy was wearing a fluffy skeleton onesie and he ran up to his father. “Papa! Papa!!” Virgil was bouncing around with excitement. “What’s up, kiddo?” Patton asked his son. It was his bedtime but he looked too excited to sleep right now.
“Knock knock!!”
Patton almost squealed. His son had learned a joke! He was almost just as excited as the small boy. “Who’s there?”
“Can o’ peas,” he said, still bouncing happily.
“Can o’ peas who?”
“Can o’ peas have a goodnight kiss?” The boy was grinning ear to ear, looking up at Patton with bright eyes. The adult squealed and scooped his son into his arms, hugging him tightly. The child’s eyes widened and he held tightly onto his father. He asked for a kiss, not a heart attack!
Patton calmed down and looked at his son. “Oh! Sorry, Virgil! I just got so excited and happy.” He chuckled nervously. His son let out a breathy laugh and looked up at Patton. “Is oki, papa. Can I have a kiss now?” he asked and Patton nodded, pressing a small kiss to his forehead. “Now, let’s get you to bed before dad finds out you’re up-”
“Patton, is Virgil still awake?” Oops….
“Um… Maybe.” Patton smiled sheepishly as Janus walked into the living room. “No, I’s not! Run papa!” Virgil squeaked and Patton zoomed up the stairs, still holding his son tightly. “Hey, wait up!” Janus called, running after them.
