Dada Hari ni Vav, is one of the two prominent vavs in Ahmedabad. A carefully designed 500 years old structure, it offers a four storeyed massive structure, all full of intricately carved walls and columns. The Descending Staircases – The stepwells or ‘Vav’ are the ponds or wells with descending staircases. The stepwells were perfect example of very advance medieval rain water harvesting and irrigation system. Most of these stepwells were made is Indian states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and modern-day Pakistan as they were arid regions. ---------------------------------------------------------- Dada Hari Ni Vav was built in 1485 by Bai Harir Sultani, the Madame of Royal Harem of Sultan Mahmud Begada. The heavily ornate five storied stepwell is built in Solanki architectural style with Persian influence to it. The Sanskrit and Arabic inscription explaining the details of the stepwell are right opposite to each other, an excellent example of religious accord of that period. ---------------------------------------------------------- We were lucky to be on a road trip to easily reach this well preserved and less visited place. In-spite of being in the proximity of Ahmedabad, reaching this place isn’t easy for many due to lack of public transport.
