New Life
Summary: Fear haunts Klaus but love radiates from Y/N. When an unexpected pregnancy comes to light it’s time for Klaus to ensure the best for his new family.
Soft sounds escaped from under the gap in the bathroom door, luring Klaus closer. His fingers had let the handles of the bag slip to the floor so that he could reach her quicker. A worried call already leaving his mouth.
"Y/N?" It was panicked, fearful. Klaus had been constantly concerned that she's been discovered, that he'd come home to her one day and those cries would be filled with pain whilst her body shook with agony in a deeply routed revenge for him. "My love-" The crack in his voice was proof of his terror. The hesitation of his footsteps added to the lump in his throat but when the door was pushed open a instant hit of relief struck him before a completely different kind of worry took it's place
Y/N was letting out the quietest of sobs and sniffles with her head leaning against the tub. One pregnancy test in her hand and three more on the floor near here while too many boxes littered the ground. Klaus felt his stomach drop to his feet. He was already terrified something could happen to Y/N and now he had another baby at risk of death at every turn?
For a split second he considered not keeping the baby but the thought was gone as quick as it came and he was down on his knees beside her. Both his arms encircled her, pulling her close and holding her head to his chin to kiss her head lovingly, reassuringly.
"I'm here." Klaus whispered, eyes wide and wet. The familiar feeling swamped him of the first time he held Hope. The unconditional love, the need to protect and guard. "How long have you been in here?" He questioned, concerned with the tear streaks staining her cheeks and shirt. When no words left her he frowned and caressed her face. "Are you frightened, love?"
It was a stupid question and Klaus knew it but he just needed to hear her speak. Y/N nodded simply and he rubbed down her back comfortingly.
"It's okay." Reassurance laced his voice as he guided her to stand, his arms supporting the majority of her weight to get her back into the living room of her apartment. The space had never seemed small before until he started picturing baby things all over: a bouncer, a crib, toys, nappies, bottles. The list was ongoing but as overwhelmed as Klaus felt, he needed to be calm for her.
So they sat down on the sofa and he took her hands into his, squeezing them gently. Klaus was determined to turn this into the best moment of their relationship.
It took a little while for reality to settle but eventually they seemed to be on the same page.
"Alright, that's the last box." Klaus announced with a sigh of relief as he paced the packed cardboard box into the empty living room of the new house they'd bought. Y/N put up a little fight over the price split but Klaus wasn't going to let her drain her bank when he could get it with the snap of his fingers. But he let her put some in so that she didn't feel so bad about it.
"When did I own so much stuff..." She mumbled, glancing over the boxes a little overwhelmed as Klaus circled her to hug her from behind, his hands resting on the small bump starting to form.
"Some of it's mine too, since we're to be living together now." He smiled, a kiss pressed to her cheek to end the sentence. It was almost odd to feel so comfortable and domestic in his world of chaos and literal magic. Even when he had Hope nothing settled or calmed, she was growing up in madness not a home or a family. The new house had a bedroom for Hope, Klaus somehow wished to be able to just have his own family, Y/N, Hope and the baby. When it was late and he was alone with his thoughts, he would think back to the time his mother wanted him to be in the body of a mortal. Being human wasn't something he had ever wanted or even considered and he knew it was entirely impossible considering who he was, the things he'd done and the people after him but he couldn't bare it to drag her into his lifestyle either. To tell her what he was, how he survived, what their child might become. She had met Hope, the sweetest girl who would tell her she was going to be a powerful witch when she grows up but it was all a fantasy to Y/N. A childish dream, not reality. And it was difficult to explain to Hope that Y/N couldn't know they weren't human yet. Every time he got close to telling, something stopped him. Something telling hm it would ruin the perfect life he could have.
Besides, he definitely couldn't tell her during her pregnancy. It might stress her out too much and Klaus wouldn't risk the baby's health not hers.
Instead he did his very best to keep her happy and as comfortable as a pregnant woman could be.
He held her hands, the bottom of her back, her ass, her hips, her waist, all of her to make her feel secure. He'd massage her shoulders and her feet, insist on cooking or at least helping as well as cleaning (Y/N refused to have hired cleaners come in when they were perfectly capable themselves). Klaus just wanted to look after her the best he could, especially seeing as he didn't do the greatest job at protecting Hayley when he was trying to.
"You're like a damn guard dog." She scolded though her tone was light and teasing as he stood in the doorway with his arms folded over his chest, arguing that she shouldn't be doing so much gardening in the blazing heat whilst pregnant. Her words made his wolf grin inside but it also bristled him a little. She didn't understand how hard it was keeping her safe, not just from the regular human things but from a dozen vampires, werewolves, witches and his own damn family.
"You could overheat. Or dehydrate, burn-"
"I can't just sit all the time Nik, I'm going crazy." She frowned, looking up at him in that 'just let me have my way' look but he wouldn't budge when it came to her safety.
"I'll buy more indoor plants." He mumbled whilst stepping closer to back her into the house further. Y/N just huffed and ran her fingers through her hair making Klaus soften with a sliver of guilt. "I just want to look after you." He sighed, stepping to her and wrapping both arms around her midsection, feeling her swollen belly press against him. "And our little one."
"I know." The words were tired but understanding. Their bodies leant against each other and their breaths mingled in the peace of the quiet.
Life was rarely quiet for Klaus until he started spending his time with Y/N. The silences weren't tense and dangerous but comfortable and soothing. It was difficult to adjust to at times but since living with her everything became natural.
By the time she was eight months pregnant he had her on bed rest, holding her tight and snuggling her close until he needed to run off to get meals and refreshments.
And when the baby finally came it was like all time had stopped.
Klaus hadn't even considered that the child could be a boy, that he would have a son.
Each time the sweet boy was in his arms Klaus felt as though he would accidentally break him, hurt him, ruin him like MIkael did to him. Y/N didn't know the full extent of the abuse, nobody did, but she could see the fear coating him, haunting his relationship with their son.
"He won't break, Nik." Y/N whispered from her place in their bed, watching him hold their little boy -Henry- over the crib.
"He's tiny." He muttered, wrapping his finger and thumb around his little wrist, then his leg.
"He's sleeping" She yawned, "And you should be too, come back."
Eventually he did, crawled back into bed and buried his nose into her hair. Without meaning to he almost never left the house, always wanting to be with them both. Their lives had completely intertwined and blossomed a whole new person.
His soul was made for hers.
