No YouTube tutorials on Shabbat! It’s true, the more things change, the more they remain the same...also now I’m curious as to how some of our most eminent Amoraim would feel about YouTube. 

There’s definitely a “this won’t look like it does in the Tasty video” passage somewhere in Seder Cookbook.

(FOR: observant cat/dog owners) Wow! All the approved Passover pet foods are so expensive! (Why O why can't the vaadim find a cheaper brand that's chametz-free?That stuff is running like $4-$4.50/lb!) It would be literally (literally literally, not figuratively literally) cheaper to feed our cats and dog kosher chicken and tuna for the 8 days. But would that be healthy for them? Can anyone suggest a Pesach diet for them that would be chametz free and keep them healthy? (yes, yes, I know CMLOV)

What’s difference between bishul akum b Askenazim and Sephardim? (I assume it’s in regards to what lenience are considered bishul Yisrael?)

My understanding (based on when I was in seminary – we had a couple of in-process converts in my dorm and were told we needed to follow the stricter Sefardi standards with regards to our kitchen because there were some Sefardi students) is that for Ashkenazim it’s sufficient if a Jew lights the flame and a non-Jew can do anything else, but for Sefardim a non-Jew can’t light the flame, but also can’t interact with the food while it’s on the flame at all. So like with those two women in seminary, every night when they wanted to cook dinner for themselves, they could do the prep before the food was being heated, but as soon as heat came into play, they had to give instructions to someone else and have them do it. They couldn’t turn on the flame, add ingredients to the pot while it was on the flame, or stir its contents while on the flame.

There's an acting troupe in NYC for shabbos-observant folk called 24/6 https://twentyfoursix.weebly.com/ (And since our local shomer shabbos acting company failed, I really wished I lived in NYC.... )

That’s such a great name for that.  

I’m not that big on acting myself but it must be really difficult to be an actor and to observe shabbat.  So many plays are scheduled on Friday nights and Saturday.  This kind of acting troupe must be a really great opportunity for people who keep shabbos.  I’m sorry the one in your area didn’t work out.  :(

Yeah, I wondered that myself. I was thinking maybe these were like tefillin confisicated by the Romans and tossed by the roadside or something??

Or perhaps taken off/out of luggage outside of the city limits so they wouldn’t be confiscated and defiled when someone entered? That was my thought.  

I mean, tefillin weren’t thought of as disposable at the time, were they? We had that whole section in Berakhot about how carefully you have to handle them. Like you should even take them into the bathroom so someone won’t steal them and try to blackmail you with them, so I guess it’s good that there’s a section covering what to do if you randomly find a pair, but this seems to imply you could find a HEAP of them without looking too hard.

Yeah, Rabbi Yochanan is way off. That would make a sqaure of about 5.4019 tefachim on a side. (24/(pi*sqrt(2)) (also, sefaria incorrectly writes "circumscribed" when they mean "inscribed") OTOH, the sages (or the translation) are off, too, since they underestimated both pi and root 2. The actual circumference should be should be 17.7716 (rounding up, 'cause halacha), so they are off by a tefach.

(I think R' Yochanan misinterpreted the Caesareans. I think it likely they were referring to the AREA, not the circumference/perimeter. for a 1x1 square inscribes in a circle of area ~1.5708, or about a "square and a half" Some things are better left to mathematicians, Rabbi) (pi/2)
