Most of you don’t know this; but when I was 14, I started health issues that kept me out of school, out of ‘normal’ life, & caused so much pain, I questioned living. Enter the 😇s bringing me the #music of #NatalieCole…
Hearing Natalie (& Nat)’s music, felt like coming home. It helped remind me who I was & who I wanted to be, regardless of what was popular, regardless of what anyone thought. It helped me (corny as it may seem), to find & believe in my music again. Hell, it was the music that helped get me through hell & continue to believe in Heaven, in spite of pain.
So when I turned (sweet)16, all I wanted to do was see Natalie, Live! I got that & more. My mother had written a letter, & Natalie decided she wanted to meet & make my birthday special. She did😁, & that’s the 📷 you see on the left (special guest orb included 😇🎹;). The 📸 you see on the right, is from years later with her son Robbie (who we also lost too soon). We stayed in touch through her website & then emails with her best friend/assistant (👋 Ms.BHJ if you’re out there). As the social media age began, I started & ran her MySpace page. Having your heroes Love, appreciate, & pray for you, there’s nothing like that 😊.
Natalie’s understanding of who she was, of what she wanted her life to be, both individually & as a part of a legacy, meant & mean so much to me. Her embrace & love for her father, for the revival of the music that ran through her veins+the creation of her own, her #healing & acceptance of it all as part of her, while honoring & celebrating the rest of who she was/wanted to be, that meant everything.
I didn’t understand it then, but that inspiration sent ripples through my life, which bless me to this day. The healing of one’s past, & the finding of ways to honor & allow it to bless you & others, is so much of who I am & what my work is. Integrating the shadows to find the Light, & always doing so With Love, that’s thanks in part to Natalie.
