PART 2!!!
“With these eyes, I vow to see and appreciate your hardships and struggles. With this lips, I swear to offer vocal support especially in times where your lips can only produce a cry. With these hands, I promise to guide and support you… With this body, I can really promise to pleasure you regardless of the time,” you both laughed at his last sentence despite the tears that kept falling on to your cheeks.
“And with my heart, I vow to love you through the ups and downs and when you can’t love yourself anymore. I’ll be there to engulf you with mine until you’re ready to love yourself once more.”
You reminisced the vows he said to you that night. On your condo’s balcony where the night sky lit up because of the fireworks. You remembered being happy, being satisfied of the life you two built for yourselves.
You were ready to marry him. Build a family you dreamt of for years.
But he wasn’t.
He gave you his vows, his promise but you figured he didn’t have the courage and stance because if he did… you should have been the one that was standing there in front of him.
You didn’t want to interrogate him because it was over but your questions kept you up at night. Questions that up until now remained the same:
Why… couldn’t it be you?
Why was it that after 9 years of being together, you had to be desperate for a marriage you were never going to get yet here he stood… marrying someone he’s been with for two years.
Your eyes and his met, mirroring the same teary expression. But you both know it was for two different reasons.
You guessed you should leave now. You’ve successfully watched your ex live his dream happily while you were still a mess.
You left after greeting the newlyweds. Your head continued to look down so you didn’t notice someone who purposefully bumped himself into you. But you couldn't be bothered... especially now that your heart still breaks upon the love of your life’s mere mention of your name.
Warnings - mentions of previous break ups and angst
Oikawa - he showed up at your doorstep, in his practice clothes, soaked to the bone from the rain. He knelt on your front doorstep and promised you that he would completely give up volleyball if it would fix you two, if it would reassure you that the love his fans had for him was nothing compared to the love he had for you.
Daishou - he went back to her and couldn't stop thinking of you. He was reminiscing of a time he missed in high school and she was the reminder but it didn't feel right. Didn't hug right, kisses didn't feel right. He ended up leaving her before anything really happened, deleting all their shared photos. After a week of contemplating, he invited you out for a coffee and told you what happened, promising it would never be the same without you.
Kageyama - he got some sense talked into him massively. The rush of emotions he got when you told him you were leaving were too much for him to handle, finally coming to terms with how he felt about you. He asks you to come to his next game and, with the help of Hinata, hands you flowers outside the locker room and finally tells you how he felt. Tells you how he loved you so much his heart ached but he was scared of feeling so much at once - that he would be better now.
Tendou - when he came back to Japan to visit, you realise how much you had missed him. It was like nothing had even happened between you. He pulled you off to the side of the reunion party and apologised, he understood how much it would've hurt you to move so quickly. You apologising in turn for disappearing. After he told you he would be working part time, switching between the Japan and France branches, he asked if you could try again. Of course, you said yes.
Tsukishima - it was a week before he managed to get you alone, under the guise of picking up some stuff from your apartment. His hand cupped your chin, pulling your face closer to him. 'I'm sorry, I want to tell everyone about you but I'm scared they'll take you from me, I want to talk about you to anyone that will listen so please let me'. The soft fingers that were wiping away your tears felt oddly soft you couldn't help but fall back into him.
Sakusa - You came back to get your stuff and saw him laying on the sofa, surrounded by a mess that was unusual for him. Red rimmed eyes met yours when you walked in and he was immediately hugging you, holding you closer then he ever had. Muttering how sorry he was into your hair, you could feel tears hitting the top of your head and he finally pulled away to apologise, promising that he would be better for you and he was just stressed from volleyball. 'you deserve so much better but please, could we try?' seeing how much of a mess he was without you made you go back, it would be better now.
Asahi - You guys met eyes across a club, him sitting blank faced between an obviously drunk Daichi and Suga. You gestured to him and met up outside, him pushing you against the wall and looking in your eyes before kissing you. 'I'm so sorry y/n. I realise what i was doing I just- I didn't want to lose you but I should've trusted you more'. You interrupted by pulling him down into a kiss, the confidence you saw in him kissing you first was the first step to fixing what you had. He would never let his anxiety overcome his love and trust for you again and you promised to work on it together.

you took a one last look at his place. one by one, memories came rushing in your mind.
it was pure bliss, and it was indeed fun. he made you feel special, like you were that someone he had wished for for a long time.
but it wasn't enough. it already come to it's end.
"what's the meaning of this, y/n? i-i saw your car full of boxes. a-are we moving out?" his voice was laced with confusion. everything was fine this morning, how could it end this way?
who wouldn't be confused? instead of being greeted warmly right after he went home, he was greeted with a gloomy atmosphere. boxes of your belongings were already inside your car. and you, who's so ready to leave him.
you were so ready to leave him behind. to be honest, you don't have any intentions of him seeing you walk away, and never look back. you want to end things not in this way. because once you saw his face, you might not want to leave anymore.
"you still love her, right?" you remain firm on your position as he just stand by the door. carefully watching you.
afraid, he was so afraid. he knows how this would end up and he's so afraid of it.
"what are you talking about? it's you that is here with me. its you, y/n." he tried to laugh it off but failed. he panicked when he saw your shoulder move and the whimper that didn't past his ears, indicating that you were crying.
"i know all along this time, it's still her. i'm sorry for getting in your way. but you can come back to her now."
it felt like he was walking in a ground with shards of broken glasses scattered on the floor. he did his best to make it infront of you. and he was right, you were crying. silently crying, like you usually do. he knows about it, and yet he didn't do anything about it.
he was taken a back when you looked directly in his eyes. he clearly saw your red gloomy eyes. he could feel how tired, hurt and so done with him. he felt a pang of guilt and regret but still hopeful that the situation would swerve.
"did you love me because you really love me, or you love me because you only need me?"
it was like a knife that stab right through his chest. it was painful, it was painful to be slapped by the reality.
"i-i love you, y/n. i really do. please, look at me." his grip on your shoulder tightens. he wants to hold you close but he knows that it would hurt you more.
"please, stop fooling me. i'm not that stupid, daishou."
"it's true. i love you."
"if you really love me, then why are you murmuring her name whenever you're asleep. when your drunk, it's her name that you are calling. and when we make love, it's her name that you whisper to sleep." it came out as a whisper, that he wished that you could've just shouted at him. punch him and hurt him.
you were weeping. he couldn't imagine how hurt you must have been all this time because of his assholeness.
"t-thats not t-true! we can talk this out, y/n. please, don't leave me." he begged. "please, let's work this out. i promise to be better. just please don't leave me. i love you. i need you. y/n. please stay"
he was on bended knees, hugging you tight and face is buried on your stomach. and he's crying, a rare sight of the daishou suguru.
he didn't care if he looks pathetic, what's important for him now is to make you stay. he could call all the saints, gods and goddesses just to make you stay. he never begged before, but now is an exemption.
"i can't. i'm so drained, so drained, daishou. i gave you all my love that i didn't left some for myself. you took everything. and now here i am, empty and left with nothing. i love you, daishou. will always be. but it hurts loving you and i'm so tired of it."
you wept. you hid your face with your palm. his embrace to you tightens.
"please, y/n. don't do this."
despite his tight embrace on you, it just took you one push of his arms away to
"i'm sorry, daishou. but let's break up."
you took a heavy breath. wipe the strained tears on your face. with chin held up high, you left him.
you left him while he just stayed there, on bended knees. too weak to move and to say something to make you stay.
warnings: major character death, mentions of blood, war, death, and vomiting
word count: 1.1k+
dedicated to: the lovely @oikirstein and @hajigumi. i hope you both cry <3
You were used to seeing men like this—bloody, bludgeoned, and hanging onto their last breath. The first time you were sent as a medic on the battlefield, you nearly vomited from the sight and the horrendous smell. Even worse was the agonized cries of men who swore they’d return home from war only to lie on a cot made of wood and linen, tears running down their dirtied faces, praying to the higher powers to grant them one last chance.
After months of the same sights over and over again, you grew accustomed to these painful circumstances, but the soldier you tended to now was a bit of an oddball. Rather than glassy eyes and dry wails, a coy smile remained on his face even as you pulled bits of metal and wood from his damaged skin. His scuffed iron and bronze armor lay at the foot of the cot, covered in mud, blood, and vines.
Daishou read his family crest, gold and shiny under all the grub. He didn’t once scream or yell as you pressed a clean cloth to the gash on his side where a sword had gone through, nor did you hear any prayers or pleads fall from his lips. You didn’t expect him to turn his head towards you, watching you treat him with delicacy. You didn’t care for the stares you received from these men, numb to their wistful eyes, but something about his gaze made goosebumps rise on your skin despite the humidity of the camp.
If it weren’t for the war, you could picture the type of man he’d be. Young, charming, and cunning. The snake-like features that appeared once you wiped the sweat and soot from his face made your heart skip a beat, and it was then that you realized he was no older than you were. You grimaced; he should’ve been out living his life, not fighting the battles of the so-called leaders who promised safety if the nation worked themselves to death.
As you reached for the medicine on your work table, the gentle weight of his fingertips fell upon your wrist. You hummed in response, and the sight of his eyes, now dark compared to how bright they were earlier, made a lump form in your throat.
“Don’t,” he murmured. “It’s okay.”
You raised a brow, brushing off his words as a product of his head injury, but his hand wrapped yours, tighter now.
“Don’t,” he repeated. “Save it for someone else.”
You glanced around the camp, noting the other medics tending to the dozens of other soldiers. Most of them were in the same condition as he was, worse even, and you couldn’t think of anyone else to use the last of your resources on. What shocked you more was the fact that he even offered, compared to the previous soldiers you’ve had who begged for a little more ointment, a bit of gauze, or a drop of liquor to soothe the pain.
But Daishou pulled your hand away from your kit and kept it close to his chest where you felt the slow, faint beating of his heart. The longer you stayed, the weaker the beats became. You had a job to do, an oath you swore upon taking the job. There was no way you could let him die, not when the troops were growing smaller, and he had barely reached his twenties. Yet you couldn’t pull away, the gentle smile on his face locking your line of sight with his.
“Daishou-”
“Suguru,” he jumped in. “Call me Suguru.”
“Suguru.” Though you had only known him for less than an hour, his given name flowed naturally off your tongue, like it had been in your vocabulary for years.
“That sounds better,” he sighed. “I like it when you say it.”
“You don’t even know me or my name,” you snorted to which he smirked.
“Then tell me.”
You huffed. “L/N Y/N, and don’t you dare call me by my given name.”
“Y/N,” Suguru parroted. “That’s a nice name for a nice-looking medic.”
“Are you trying to flirt with me while you’re on the brink of death?” Your eyes widened as your teeth clamped down on your tongue. “Oh no, I’m so sorry. I didn’t-”
“’S okay,” he laughed, voice weaker than it was minutes ago. You had to crane down to hear him, your ear grazing over his lips. “It’s inevitable now. I will say this is quite intimate, though.”
Heat bloomed across your cheeks, equivalent to the glimmering sun that rose above the top of the camp’s tent.
“Say,” Suguru whispered. “As a dying man, I’d like to have one last wish fulfilled.”
“Oh?” You leaned back to look at his handsome face, idly brushing away the strands of hair strewn over his bruised forehead. “What might that be?”
“A kiss from the medic sitting beside me before I go.”
If the request had come from anyone else, you would’ve fought the urge to crinkle your nose in disgust. But something about these last few moments with a man you barely knew, how he managed to share a handful of laughs and charm himself into your heart before his would stop beating made you tip your head down until your soft lips pressed against his rough, chapped ones. You didn’t care if he tasted like salt and blood, or if this would be the next topic of discussion at dinner—you hoped to bring Suguru some peace of mind in his final moments, especially if they were with you.
As your mouth moved against his (he was idle by then), the tears unknowingly clumped in your lashes fell down your hot face, down to his cheeks that began to lose their warmth. This was the job you chose, you reminded yourself. Suguru was one of many soldiers whose stories ended before they began, and he wouldn’t be the last. Once you sat up again, his eyelids covered most of his irises, but you could still see the playful shimmer in them before it faded.
“Thank you, Y/N” he murmured, keeping your hand against his chest. “Thank you.”
He gave his final breath as his heartbeat faded until there was nothing left to feel. It was after you laid the honorary white cloth over his body, adorned with gold trim, and carried his armor to the basin of water outside the camp that you let yourself weep. You wept as you scrubbed the grime away, polishing it for his parents who couldn’t see their son’s face for the last time. You wept until it pained your throat, and your lungs burned with each breath, for the tears you spilled would be the first of many for the young soldier whose final moments lay in your hands.
daishou x f!reader ⚘ fluff, angst ⚘ wc: 6.7k ⚘ warnings: language, mentions of divorce
→ you: a student who’s struggling financially. daishou: an acquaintance who finds out some lucrative information that you (and him) could greatly benefit from. when daishou approaches you with a proposition, you find yourself in a situation you’d never even imagined of. at the end of the day, it’s all about the money anyways.
a/n: the biggest happy birthday to my damp frog, @writeiolite. i know i’m basically the last to post this but i will also tell u that none of this makes sense. anyways, i sort of got this idea after we talked about money for like two seconds that one day. it has been an absolute joy meeting u and becoming frog x rat. i love you oh so very much, even though all you do is bully me. i hope you had the best day ever - you deserve nothing less!
“daishou. get. up.”
you couldn’t remember what got you in this situation. your eyes narrowed uncertainly as you looked down, reaching into the depths of your mind, trying desperately to jog your memory for even an inkling of an idea as to why daishou was doing this to you.
all you could trace it back to was showing up late to your meetings because of work. your complaints, whines, and gripes, all spilled in the first twenty minutes of each meeting. you were exhausted.
daishou … had a solution. a scam, some would say.
the words ‘tax break’ and ‘joint filing’ and ‘grant eligibility’ swirled in your mind like a tornado as you continued to search through the directory in your brain.
“daishou,” you hissed. “what are you doing?”
suguru daishou - first law school friend, loyal classmate, and project partner - down on one knee in front of you. his lips curled into a knowing smirk.
“whatdya say?”
a ring pop glinted in the sunlight. to the normal passerby, it would look like the real thing, just some amethyst heirloom that his grandmother most likely passed down to him. a pretty big heirloom, but nonetheless - the real deal.
you glared at him, silently begging him to stand the hell up before you lost your
mind. you were numbly aware of all the people passing by, all the eyes, just staring at the two of you in bated breath, waiting for your response. you were vaguely aware of how the clock was ticking, how you needed to make your shift on time otherwise you’d take yet another pay cut.
before you knew it, the words were spilling out. “fine,” you barely mumbled, your eyes darting away from him. “please, just get up now.”
daishou smiled widely, throwing his hands out wide and around you as he stood up. strangers began to clap for you, giggles and congratulations drifting past your ears. you wriggled out of his grasp, pushing him away.
“get off me, i’m late,” you grunted, clicking your tongue at him as you slung your backpack over your shoulder.
a tiny smirk played on his lips. “don’t be like that right after you accepted my proposal, babe.”
you glared at him, still wondering what the hell he was thinking. glancing down at your phone, you checked the time - if you dilly-dallied around any longer, you’d be late. you rolled your eyes at him once again, and without a goodbye, you stalked off in the opposite direction.
you sighed heavily, flopping back on your couch.
“daishou, what the hell?”
there was some scuffling in the kitchen. he set the glass against the fridge, water slowly rising. you could hear him take a long sip from behind you and you just knew he was dragging this out for longer than necessary.
“daishou,” you snapped, twisting around to get a look at him.
he set the glass down on the counter, licking his lips and exhaling contentedly. “think about it,” he finally said. “you’re struggling, i’m struggling. i’ve found a loophole for us.”
“what loophole?” you said, getting angrier as the seconds passed by. if he didn’t give you a better explanation -
“you and i don’t make any money. like literally, we make so very little, but if we get married, we have to file our own taxes and our parents’ income doesn’t get reflected. our tax bracket will be so low that we can catch a tax break,” he reasoned. “but get this - there are so many scholarships for married couples. even better, since we’ll file jointly, we’ll qualify for more financial aid from fafsa too.”
you blinked a few times. your mind desperately tried to wrap around the words he was saying to you but it just could not. “daishou,” you said slowly, turning your neck away from him, your eyes wide as you continued to think. “what?”
he took another long sip of water from his glass before walking your way. “just think about it,” he said, as if it was supposed to make complete sense to you.
unfortunately for you, you were still struggling to keep up.
“i am thinking about it,” you gritted out, your eyes narrowing. his lackadaisical attitude wasn’t helping his case one bit.
daishou drew in a breath, dipping into the empty spot next to you on the couch. you watched him intently, irritation boiling inside of you by the second. if he took any longer to explain this in further detail you were about to take back the ‘yes’ you’d barely managed to utter a mere few hours ago.
he finally opened his mouth. he finally, somehow, made it make sense to you. so there you sat, listening to him with your mouth wide open in pure shock, getting more and more convinced as the seconds passed by.
your mind was running a million miles per minute, trying desperately to keep up - and somehow, it was. it was all making sense to you - and he knew that. he watched with smug satisfaction as the gears in your mind began to shift slightly.
“make sense?” he finally said, crossing his arms over his chest.
you blinked at him. “you might be onto something,” you murmured, before cocking your head to the side. “daishou, are we compatible enough to do this?” you finally said.
sure, this was a marriage of complete convenience. you were still getting married though - you’d be lying if you said you didn’t have your concerns. and somewhere, tucked away deep in your heart, you still romanticized marriage.
“we can divorce in two years, when we’re out of here and have to stop filing taxes and fafsa and paperwork and stuff,” he said nonchalantly, waving his hand around.
you inhaled sharply. “i need some time to think, daishou,” you murmured, looking away from him.
he reached to grab his things, grunting as he stood up. “take all the time you need, babe, but fafsa’s right around the corner.”
you groaned internally, hanging your head back. this man really would not leave your apartment without giving you a stroke, huh? you glared at him, before pointing to the door. you’d had enough for the day.
but as you slept on it, you figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea. it would be like a shotgun wedding - without the baby, the wedding, and purely for money.
“paperwork,” daishou said, slamming a file down on the table in front of you.
your lower lip jutted out into a pout. “you’re telling me i gotta fill all this out?”
“we gotta fill this all out,” he muttered, taking a seat at the table next to you.
you looked around suspiciously, making sure that nobody was listening in. he’d really picked the library out of all places to place this in front of you, and not only that, in front of a million law school students.
your teeth tugged at your lower lip as you tentatively opened the manila folder, pulling out the stack of papers.
“this is worse than homework,” you muttered. “i don’t know anything about you.”
daishou clicked his tongue. “that’s not true,” he said quickly, peering at you as you flipped through the sheets. “you know things about me.”
“your terrible work ethic and affinity for cinnamon rolls for breakfast will not help me fill this out whatsoever,” you snapped, your eyes scanning over the words ‘marriage license.’ you wanted to vomit.
he rolled his eyes at you, before taking the papers from your hands. “let’s see,” he murmured softly. he looked to you, newfound determination in his eyes. “alright, let’s just get this over with.”
you watched him read through the application, his pen sliding over the top half of the page with ease. peering at it quietly, you said, “i didn’t know you had a middle name.”
his eyes stayed on the paper as he murmured, “it’s not something i willingly tell people.”
“you’re right,” you said bluntly, fighting back a smirk, “it’s an ugly middle name.”
he finally looked up at you, rolling his eyes as he slid the paper to you. “ten bucks i’m about to find out something ugly about you too.”
“there’s nothing ugly about me,” you said childishly, taking the pen from his hands.
you made quick work of filling out the blanks with your basic information - first name, middle name, last name, place of birth, etc. - before reviewing all of the information over again.
blinking a few times, you cocked your head to the side. “you know the divorce paperwork is going to be a complete bitch, right?”
he shrugged nonchalantly. “we can worry about that in two years.”
your teeth gnawed on the inside of your cheek, disbelief clouding your judgement. this was not how you’d wanted to get married for the first time.
shoving your thoughts aside, you handed the application back to him. “i don’t have class on thursday if you’re free.”
“we have the same schedule, headass.”
you fought the urge to sock him in the gut, standing up abruptly. “as soon as i become your wife, i’m gonna make your life a living hell because of this.”
“i’d like to see you try,” daishou responded teasingly. you made your way to leave the table, not bothering to wait for him. from behind, you heard him call out, “wait up, wifey! we have class together, don’t leave me behind.”
you bent down, the tip of your pen set against the papers. you drew in a shaky breath - were you sure you wanted this? - before you looked up at daishou uneasily.
he nodded encouragingly, his eyes softening at your nervousness.
“it’s okay,” he said softly, “whatever you want to do is fine by me.”
you gritted your teeth, before glancing down at the papers again, the giant “x” blaring at you like the brightest stop sign.
there was a tap on your shoulder, and you looked to your other side tentatively.
“are you sure about this?”
you blinked a few times to your witness, before swallowing thickly. “kuroo, i - ”
“i do have another appointment coming up soon,” the officiant said monotonously, and you glared at her, before whipping back to your left.
“whatever he’s said, it makes sense so far,” you mused, your words coming out frantically as you continued to speak to kuroo. “kuroo, what do you think?”
kuroo drew in a deep breath, crossing his arms over his chest. he took a good glance at daishou, his eyebrows rising skeptically. “i think you’re completely insane, but if this is what you need to do to succeed, i’m not going to stop you.”
that was all the approval you needed - because if you chickened out now, you just knew you were going to spend so much time regretting it. sure, you were going to regret the paperwork that came later, but that was exactly it - a problem for later.
the pen slid against the paper with ease and you let out the breath you were holding, before handing the pen to daishou.
“i can’t believe kuroo is our witness,” daishou grumbled, bending down to sign the paper for himself.
you were more shocked that daishou signed the papers with absolutely no hesitations and that he was more irritated with kuroo’s presence. your hands began to shake as the officiant collected them, congratulated you, and then shooed you out of the office.
kuroo placed his hands on your shaking shoulders. “you’re a married woman now, huh?”
“hands off my wife,” daishou muttered, glancing between the two of you.
you breathed out a nervous laugh, your mind reeling from what had just happened. you kept walking until you were at the front of the courthouse, where kuroo asked, “are you going to be alright?”
“yea,” you said quickly, shaking your head slightly, “i just need a moment - ”
“no moments, come on, we’re going home.”
your head snapped to daishou. “daishou, cut it out. i need a little time to process this.”
daishou tilted his head to the side, clearly debating whether or not he should say the next thing that came to mind. he settled with his better judgement, before nodding slowly. “let me know when i can come over, so we can fill out the fafsa.”
you sighed, before nodding tiredly. you glanced to kuroo, motioning for him to come with you back to your place. if you were about to spend your married life with daishou, you needed a bit of a break first.
“can you stop inviting yourself over like this?” you huffed, quickly stashing away the mess you’d made barely an hour prior.
“if not i, then who else?” daishou said dramatically. “did you already eat?”
you hummed lightly to tell him you hadn’t, sighing heavily as you tossed whatever you’d left on the counter back into the pantry. you watched as daishou made himself comfortable on your couch.
your eyes narrowed when he turned to look back at you, holding up his phone. “the normal tonight? let’s call for delivery.”
“you act like our combined income can afford whatever we want,” you muttered sarcastically, joining him in the living room. you fell back into the empty spot next to him, tuning his voice out as he placed the order at your usual pizza place.
you shifted slightly, sinking deep into the couch as you took a long look at the man next to you. instinctively, your eyes drifted to your hand as you inspected it carefully. it’d easily been over a month already, and you could barely even call this a marriage.
biting back a sigh, your lashes fluttered back up to daishou, who’d just hung up. he reached for the tv remote, lazily flipping through the channels.
“are you not here so we can finish scholarship forms?” you tutted, pointing to his bag.
he rolled his eyes, before sinking back into the couch, his shoulders landing a mere few inches from your forehead. he glanced down at you, his eyes resting on yours for a few moments longer than you’d have liked.
you looked away from him, watching the tv come to life. you felt him do the same, the cushions rustling against you with his abrupt movements.
“yea, let’s just eat first,” he mumbled, flipping through your netflix account aimlessly. a pause, and then a huff. “have you been rewatching avatar without me?”
you rolled your eyes, glancing at the clock on your phone. “you never told me you were interested.” your stomach growled accordingly to the time and you silently cursed yourself as daishou shot you a smirk.
“okay, well i’m gonna restart it, and we’re gonna binge it whether you like it or not,” daishou muttered, setting the remote to his side and leaning back once again.
you sighed, hearing the familiar theme song play in the background. you normally mouthed the words to it, but this time, you settled with sneaking glances at daishou - partly in confusion and partly in … something else?
you inhaled sharply, an uneasy feeling pooling in the pits of your stomach. your mind wandered as aang attempted to master waterbending, and you brushed off the uneasiness as hunger. as soon as that pizza arrived, you’d be in top shape once again … right?
you slid comfortably into the seat next to daishou, setting your file down as you caught your breath.
“and why were you almost late today?” daishou asked smugly, twisting open the cap of your water bottle and holding it out for you.
you thankfully took it from him, controlling your breaths with long sips of water. as soon as you’d downed at least half the bottle, you swallowed to say, “i just woke up late.”
daishou leaned in close. “really taking advantage of those marriage benefits, hm?”
he was partially right; you’d felt confident enough to quit one of the jobs you’d been working before you’d gotten your marriage license, leaving you with only two part time jobs. your desperate attempts to keep yourself on schedule were failing miserably, however, as you continued to sleep late and struggled to wake early to make it to class on time.
you inhaled deeply, your eyes trailing after kuroo, who took the seat to your left. you offered a half smile as you watched kuroo glare at daishou, before he clicked his tongue and grabbed his things for the day.
“how’s the honeymoon phase?” kuroo mumbled under his breath.
you’d been careful not to tell anybody in your class about your … arrangement. your class was small, roughly only 50 people, and word travelled quickly - if anybody had found out about your situation with daishou, they’d know it’s a scam immediately.
you were surrounded by law students after all.
daishou swung an arm around your shoulders, sending a jolt up your spine. sure, you’d gotten significantly more comfortable with one another over the past few months -
“we’re doing absolutely fantastic, kuroo,” daishou said smugly, daring him to keep asking questions.
“keep answering for her and things won’t be as a sweet, suguru,” kuroo muttered, cocking his head to the side.
daishou leaned in close, his arm still around you. “sounds to me like someone’s a little jeal - ”
“sounds to me,” kuroo said abruptly, turning back to his laptop, “that someone doesn’t know anything about his wife.”
daishou clamped his mouth shut, glancing at you. your eyes widened - this was awfully uncharacteristic of him. by now, kuroo would’ve gotten an earful -
“class is about to start,” you whispered, feeling slightly startled by the change in mood.
daishou looked at you for another moment, before inhaling sharply and removing himself from you. he cleared his throat, pulling out his books and his laptop.
what was that all about?
‘u up?’
you bit back an urge to laugh out loud.
‘it’s 9 pm, daishou. why wouldn’t i be?’
two weeks into winter break and daishou had not stopped messaging you since you parted. it was comforting, like he was always with you while you were with your family.
you’d considered briefly asking him if he wanted to come visit one of these days, but you wouldn’t even know how to introduce him. your husband? absolutely not - this was a fat secret from your family, and you intended to keep it that way.
your boyfriend?
butterflies flurried from the pits of your stomach at the thought and you sighed, leaning back into the couch as your family continued to fight for the tv.
your phone buzzed on your lap and you jumped slightly, your heart lurching as you reached for it quickly.
‘you act like an old woman sometimes, that’s why.’
you breathed out a laugh, fingers rapidly hitting your screen as you typed out a response.
‘as if u don’t act like an old man urself.’
the response came almost immediately, much to your [pleasure].
‘guess i’m your old man for a reason then.’
your eyes crinkled softly, another laugh tempting to escape your lips. you almost wanted to vomit - that’s how domestic the two of you acted.
you shot him a text back, before glancing up at your family, who’d finally decided on a movie. you set your phone aside for the night, curled up against your parents, and focused on the movie instead - and despite it being a thriller, the smile had never left your face all night long.
“did you guys start dating over break?”
you choked on the water you’d been sipping on.
daishou turned, eyes narrowing at his classmate. “if we did, what’s it to you?”
you swatted at his arm, silently begging for him to just shut the hell up. much to your luck, the professor started class early, claiming that there was just ‘too much to cover that day.’
you kept an eye on the clock, before packing your things up early to make it to work.
“wait, i’ll come with you,” daishou muttered, stuffing his things in his own bag quickly. “i have to head that way.”
you hummed, before placing your hands on him and pushing him out of the seat. “hurry up, otherwise i’m gonna be late.”
he clicked his tongue at you, slinging his bag on his shoulder. he reached for your hand as the two of you traversed through the crowds of undergraduates. you cursed yourself for not having classes much further away from them, but there was nothing you could do about it.
out of habit, you laced your fingers with his, trying to keep up with his long stride. it wasn’t long before you tugged slightly, a little out of breath at both his fast pace and his large steps.
he let go of your hand for a moment, reaching for the water bottle sitting in the side of your backpack. he twisted it open and handed it to you, and you grasped it gratefully, water dribbling down the sides of your mouth as you sipped.
man, it was hot outside.
you handed it back to daishou, who slipped it in the pocket of your bag as you wiped at your mouth.
“thanks,” you muttered, reaching for his hand again.
he checked his watch. “you’re about to be late, hurry up.”
you felt yourself getting tugged, and suddenly you were out of breath all over again. you silently cursed your fate, before sighing in relief when the building was finally in sight.
he stopped abruptly, before almost pushing you into the building. “have a good day at work, i’ll see you at home!”
your heart lurched at the word ‘home’ as you bid him good luck, rushing into work with a small smile on your face.
“daishou can you help me out for a second?” you grunted, reached your arm up to the second shelf of the cabinet.
there was a sigh and you clicked your tongue. “you’re practically living here without paying rent, might i remind you,” you added distastefully, standing on one foot as you tried to grab the bowl.
your body was pressed forward, daishou’s warmth encasing you from behind. you let out a yelp, almost falling - if you hadn’t been trapped against daishou and the counter in front of you, you would've fallen face flat.
the heat prickled up your neck, sending shivers down your spine at the same time. you barely had a moment to turn around and look at him as he set the bowl down on the counter next to your hand.
he pulled away slightly as you wriggled to face him.
“thanks,” you huffed, fighting a roll in your eyes. your eyes trailed up to his, which were peering down at you.
he leaned forward, placing his hands on the edge of the counter on either side of you, trapping you in between his arms.
your breath hitched slightly - if you’d leaned any more forward, your noses would brush against each other. so instead you opted to lean back, your head almost hitting the wood behind you.
“careful,” daishou said lowly - tentatively - as his eyes flickered to your lips. “don’t hit your head.”
you swallowed, blinking a few times as you struggled to find the right words. “back up,” you whispered. “i have things to do.”
he cocked his head to the side as you waited in bated breath for words to spill from his lips.
“daishou,” you licked your lips, “what’re you doing? can you … move?”
“do you really want me to?” daishou said, his lips offering a daring half-smile.
your internal response was almost visceral: no. so you did the next thing that came to mind - you leaned forward, your eyelashes fluttering close, as you pressed your lips flush against his.
you ignored the wild beating of your heart against your ribcage, the train of thought travelling at a million miles per minute in your mind, the unsettling feeling in your stomach. you ignored it all as daishou rested his hand against your cheek, running a thumb against your cheekbone as he tilted his chin.
your arms tangled around his neck, fingers splaying in his hair as you pulled him closer to you, desperate for more. he moved his hand to wrap around your waist as you continued to lean back, but hitting your head against the cabinet was quite possibly the last thing on your mind at that moment.
you jolted away from him for a desperate breath of air, your eyes wide as you looked to him. his eyes searched yours for a moment, before he tilted his chin.
more?
you swallowed, nodding slowly. your eyes shut as you pulled him against you once again, smiling against his lips as they crashed into yours.
more.
“our taxes came back today, i’ll send you half of it in a bit.”
you hummed as you stood over the stove, flipping the vegetables with your spatula.
daishou snuck up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist. he rested his chin at the crook of your neck.
“can you pay attention to me for once?”
your jaw dropped as you gasped. “can you make dinner then?”
he shook his head against you and you laughed. “i’ll leave it to you,” he muttered, tightening his hold around your waist. he placed a soft kiss on your cheek before you turned your head, puckering out your lips.
“maybe you paid more attention to me - ”
“shut up,” you griped, dropping the spatula to grip his shirt. “can you stop being annoying for once?”
“but you’re the one who wants to kiss this annoying ass, am i wrong?”
you opened your eyes, narrowing them as you huffed, “not anymore.”
he laughed, before pressing his lips to yours with a soft hum. you giggled against him, before swatting him away.
“can you at least go pick a good movie? do something useful for once.”
he pointed a finger at you. “hey,” he muttered, “don’t you think setting up this arrangement was pretty useful of me?”
you felt your heart still at his words. arrangement? your brows furrowed, your heart sinking slightly as you struggled to find the right words.
“just go find a movie,” you insisted, turning back around to the stove.
arrangement?
was that how he felt about this?
you sighed slightly, keenly aware of daishou’s shuffling in the kitchen once again. you tossed the vegetables with your spatula, before arms wrapped around your waist again.
“what’s wrong?”
you tilted your chin to the side, before shaking your head. you didn’t dare meet his eyes, because if you did -
“nothing,” you hummed slightly, reaching to turn off the stove.
daishou hummed behind you, before pressing his lips against your temple. he let go of your waist, deciding it may have been better to drop it for now. you shivered at the lack of heat around you, despite standing over the warm stove.
- you might’ve asked for more.
“it’s already been almost two years, huh?”
you looked to kuroo, blinking a bit before nodding. “i think our two year anniversary is in a few months, actually.” may, june, july, august, september -
“isn’t that crazy?” kuroo murmured, leaning in close to you. “and to think, this started off - ”
“from pure love,” daishou interrupted. “it started off from pure love and pure love only.”
kuroo’s eyebrows shot up, an amused smile playing on his lips. “i wouldn’t test me if i were you, suguru. i know a lot more than you think i do,” he said ominously.
daishou looked to you and you rolled your eyes.
“he’s kidding,” you muttered, your heart lurching slightly.
a lie. kuroo knew almost everything you were thinking about - including the conversation you’d had with daishou back at your place not too long ago. it weighed heavy on your mind as you kept up this charade, as daishou came to your apartment every evening, as the two of you spent almost every breathing moment together.
you shot him a look, shaking your head slightly - a silent plea for him to back down.
kuroo sighed, and daishou glanced at the two of you back and forth.
“is there something i’m missing here?” daishou asked.
you reached for your starbucks cup, sucking on the straw as you shook your head silently. kuroo shrugged - he wouldn’t have given daishou an answer regardless.
daishou hummed, his eyebrows raising slightly as he looked at his laptop. he typed out a quick message to you - ‘you know you can talk to me, right?’
you checked your phone, before nodding slightly, hoping daishou would just see you instead of waiting for a response. only god knows how drained you felt at that moment, just thinking about how in five months it would already be a two year arrangement, about how not even two months into your relationship, you were already feeling doubts.
“there’s a scholarship application open for married couples,” daishou mumbled, wrapping an arm around your waist and tugging you in.
you hummed, resting your head at the crook of his neck. “let’s talk about it later.” you were met with silence in return, so you snaked your own arm around his waist, pulling yourself just a little closer to him.
he shifted, looking down at you for a moment. he moved his hand to splay on your head, fingers tangling in your strands as you sighed against him.
you’d never gotten the chance to speak to him - would now be a good time?
you decided against it, despite the fact that your mind was wandering to the word ‘arrangement’ every time you thought about being with him.
sighing heavily, you tugged on the blanket in front of you, pulling it over the two of you as you shivered. daishou’s hands drifted to your back, drawing tiny circles mindlessly as his eyes stayed on the tv screen.
“is something bothering you?” daishou finally murmured, sneaking a glance at you.
you wondered if you should fake sleep at that moment, but it was too late for you to make that call. you glanced up at him through your eyelashes, before shaking your head. “no, why?”
“i know you better than you think i do,” he mused, shifting his eyes back to the screen. “if something’s on your mind, just say it.”
i don’t want it to ruin what we have.
you shook your head again as you looked away, and daishou pulled you on top of him. you yelped as he adjusted you to straddle him, your eyes meeting his.
“now you’re finally looking at me,” he murmured, his hands fluttering around your face, tucking your hair behind your ears, thumbs running along your cheekbones. “it’s been a while since you’ve looked at me.”
the response came quick, spilling from your lips with no hesitation. “i’m always looking at you,” you breathed out, your lower lip jutting out slightly. you brought your arms to his shoulders, your thumbs resting behind his ears as your hands dug underneath his hair.
“not these past few weeks you haven’t,” he said daringly, his eyes meeting yours. your heart lurched, your stomach twisting slightly as you shifted. his hands went to your waist, loosely holding you in place.
“how can i prove it to you?” you purred, leaning in forward.
he tilted his chin up, his lips ghosting over yours as he whispered, “show me.”
the fafsa application opened up once again - you’d finally hit the two year mark in your marriage with daishou. and this time, it wasn’t ‘arrangement’ that was on your mind - it was ‘divorce.’
your fingers drummed against the dinner table as you pursed your lips, waiting for daishou to bring the food over.
“suguru,” you said slowly, watching him set your bowl in front of you, “we don’t have to fill out the fafsa this time.”
he nodded quickly. “unless you’re planning on staying here for another year.”
you choked. “i wouldn’t dream of it.”
he shrugged, a teasing smile tugging on his lips as he poked his chopsticks into the bowls in front of you. “i wouldn’t be surprised if you were forced to stay here against your will.”
“okay but listen,” you said hastily, your mind far away from where his taunts were at, “what do you want to do … about this?”
he looked up at you, resting his chopsticks on his lips. he gently set them down, brows furrowing slightly. “about dinner?”
“no,” you pressed, wanting to talk about this and get it over with. if not now, then when? you no longer had any reason to keep this charade going - you’d already made it this far and there wasn’t a reason for you to stay together after you’d already gotten all your scholarships and tax breaks. “about us. remember? we were going to … ”
the words latched to your windpipe, a lump forming at the back of your throat as you struggled to say the word ‘divorce.’ instead, you left it up to him to figure it out - and if he didn’t, then you were just about ready to kick him out because you needed answers now.
“i haven’t thought about it yet,” he said frankly.
you clenched your fist around your chopsticks. hadn’t thought about it? it was all you’d thought about for months - even before you started dating.
“can you do some thinking about it?” you ground out, eyes shifting to glare at the curry in front of you.
he picked at his rice. “i mean, i thought we agreed on divorce at the end of this, right?” he said nonchalantly, and you felt like he’d just ripped your heart out of your chest.
how could he say it so casually?
“how could you say it so casually?” you blurted, mirroring your own thoughts. you inhaled deeply, trying not to get clouded by your own emotions. “daishou, do you still want to divorce?”
daishou scoffed lightly and all inhibitions seemed to be gone between the two of you. “babe, we’re not even 24 yet. you wanna stay married?”
“no,” you insisted, letting your shock override you. “i didn’t say that. i just wanna know what you want.” do you want to stay together after we divorce?
“divorce,” he said quickly, his eyes narrowing as he looked down to his food. he clicked his tongue, irritation passing his features. “let’s get a divorce.”
“hey kuroo, you wanna help with this divorce?” you muttered at lunch, picking at your food.
kuroo choked on his lunch. “excuse me, what?”
you hummed lightly, putting your fork up to your lips. “daishou and i are getting a divorce. you’re planning on becoming a divorce attorney anyways, so just help your friend out.”
“i mean of course i’ll help you out,” he said hesitantly, “but what next? are you still - ”
“i’m not sure,” you said quickly. “i don’t think so.”
two years down the drain.
you sighed heavily, your shoulders slumping forward. feelings aside, at least you saved a lot of money - you had no complaints on his brilliant idea on that end.
“what’re you looking so upset for?”
you looked up at the new voice, your face falling at the sight of daishou pulling out the chair.
“don’t tell me you asked,” daishou glanced to kuroo, “him to help you with our case?”
“how much did you hear?” you grumbled, closing your lunch bag. you were ready to flee at any moment if needed. “it’s not even a case yet.”
“i’m not even an attorney yet,” kuroo gently reminded, following in suit by packing all his things away. “but you guys should figure this out before it becomes a case.”
“it’s not a case,” daishou grumbled. you moved to stand up and daishou clasped your wrist quickly. his eyes shifted to kuroo, before he said quietly, “can we just talk for a minute?”
it’d easily been over a week before either of you had seen each other, much less talked to each other. you hadn’t even sat by each other in class, braving the comments from your classmates.
you looked to kuroo, before shooing him away and insisting that it was going to be okay.
“what, suguru?”
his hand was still latched to your wrist, holding you down as if you were ready to run at any moment. it wouldn’t be a lie to say that you weren’t ready to jet at any moment either, though.
“hear me out,” he insisted softly. he opened his mouth, visibly struggling to find the right words to say after not having seen you for a while. he inhaled, and slowly came the words. “i miss you.”
your heart lurched - would it be okay if you just left … now? you almost wanted to laugh at the thought as the adrenaline coursed through your veins. you reached into the crevices of your mind - you absolutely missed him too. to say you weren’t a little anxious, however, was a different story.
was this just an arrangement that was convenient for him?
“i miss you too,” you finally blurted, hanging your head. your heart was aching the past few days, and uttering the words relieved your pain. can we just figure this out?
“even if we get a divorce,” he muttered, the heat flaring in his cheeks, “i want us to make it work.”
you almost wanted to laugh at how shy he was acting all of a sudden, his confident voice dwindling down to a mere mumble. you wriggled your wrist out of his grasp, before interlacing your fingers with his.
“i suppose you’ve convinced me,” you teased.
he poked your head with his other hand, before dragging you up. “come on, let’s just go home already. i’m thinking about moving in next semester.”
you choked. “what now?”
“i mean, we are married after all.”
you faced the stove again, sighing as you tossed the vegetables on the pan. another day another fight - another threat -
“are you seriously threatening me with that again?” you yelled to him, not even minding where he went.
“can i not? it still stands from a year ago,” daishou called back.
“yeah, and a year ago we decided we’d just stay together because it was too much money and paperwork to file for it.”
there was some shuffling behind you as you angrily chopped up your vegetables. the knife slammed against the cutting board and you sure hoped he was listening, because maybe, just maybe, he was going to sleep on the couch that night.
“babe.”
a soft call for you.
tears streamed down your face as you began to chop the onions, not minding daishou’s presence. your eyes stung as you chopped and you chopped -
“babe.”
upon his insistent tone, you finally turned around, your breath hitching in your throat as you looked down.
“suguru. get. up.” you said quickly. you looked down to the man on one knee, this time in your shared kitchen.
“i didn't do it right the first time. why don’t we do it right this time?”
you scoffed, swiping at your eyes. he thought now was the time for this? just hours prior, daishou was discussing divorce again as a joke.
“we’re already married, suguru.”
“can you just say yes already? my knee hurts.”
you glared at him. “yes. get up.”
he smiled giddily, slipping the ring on your finger. it was heavy on your hand, but you still couldn’t help but admire it in the light, despite your temporary irritation towards him.
“sorry it took me so long,” he mumbled, his hands on your cheeks as he pulled you in for a kiss. you hummed against him softly, taking a good look at the ring once again.
you looked up at him, your anger melting away little by little. “do you want a ceremony this time?”
he smiled, reaching for your hands and lacing his fingers with your own.
Note: This is an Angel!AU and there is a character death in this one. I really enjoyed writing this one, the idea came to me out of nowhere. I almost teared up at the end. If you are sensitive about the afterlife and bleak darkness, please skip this!

“And remember, you must never, NEVER fall for a human.”
“Why not?”
“Humans are dangerous, disgusting, greedy little creatures. If they ever touch your wings or your heart, your wings will break off and you’ll fall to Earth, just like your brothers and sisters did. None of them have ever survived the fall and they end up in the darkness for eternity.”
“What if they can’t help it?” Daishou Suguru asked. As an angel himself, he was naturally one of the ones that would never ask or question his superior’s motives. Debonair, charismatic, everyone liked him. He was one of the top angels, so many of the angels came to him for wisdom, even though he denied them politely. It was amazing the power an angel had, especially if they weren’t archangels.
His superior looked over at him, frowning slightly. Never had Daishou stepped out of line once, so what did it hurt to tell him the truth? “Meet me in my office.”
The other angels were glancing between their superior and Daishou, afraid that he had stepped on a live wire. No matter, he was brave enough to put on a mask. However, he was worried about it. Had he done something wrong? Entering the office, he looked around but couldn’t seem to focus on one thing as he sat across his superior.
The other angel brought out a glowing white sheet of paper and threw it out of the door. “Can you tell me what that was?”
Daishou tried to think of an idea before shaking his head slightly. “No, sir.”
“You’re the best angel in this section. I’m promoting you to guardian angel. There’s someone I want you to protect.” He started going through his notebook, squinting a bit as he searched for a name.
Daishou cleared his throat. “With all due respect, sir, what does this have to do with my question earlier?”
“Everything. Once you start looking after the humans, you’ll realize why it’s dangerous to fall for them. You’ll harbor the same feelings we do. We don’t necessarily hate them; however, there are some things that they do that are very...questionable. Some are smarter than they look, still, it’s better for you to see for yourself. Your promotion will start in two consecutive days. Any questions?”
“What’s the name of my human?”
“Y/N L/N.” The superior angel had turned a contraption around, showing Daishou a picture of Y/N who was smiling at something at her side. Her smile was genuine and she didn’t even know that there was a picture being taken of her. Something about her made Daishou smile softly. Already he loved her and would protect her until it was time for her to join heaven.
What he didn’t know is that he would be doing exactly what everyone had warned him not to do.
~
As time went on (well, at least for a mortal like Y/N), she found herself going through heartbreaks and invisible injuries, never physical harms though. She had protected herself from those, but her mentality after her last heartbreak was “no one’s ever going to love me”.
Daishou was able to tap into some of her thoughts as her guardian angel. He could only stand in front of her as she blankly walked through the streets. He whispered, “Oh darling, how I wish I was actually with you right now.” The most he could do for her was touch her forehead gently and fly away, his face screwed into a frown.
Y/N, the next day, had felt better and even laughed a bit when she was watching one of her favorite shows. Daishou had taken a seat in the chair next to the sofa she was sitting on, staring at the TV with disgust. “This stuff is what you humans like to see?” But after watching her face, he started smiling as well. “As long as you’re happy, so am I.”
Every step Y/N took from that day on, Daishou was right next to her, invisible to human eyes. All of the angels knew he had been promoted to guardian angel, nevertheless at seeing his expression with her, they couldn’t help but feel a twinge of fear. What if Daishou fell in love with her?
At night, when he was staring down at her, making sure she didn’t get nightmares, one of the younger angels asked him, “Are you in love with her?”
“No! That’s forbidden, I can’t fall in love with her. ” Daishou said. “I just like seeing her be happy.”
“Oh. Isn’t that a human emotion?”
“No, it applies to all creatures with their own minds.”
The other angel left, joining his brothers as Daishou stared down at Y/N with a gentle smile on his face. He sensed her getting a nightmare and quickly flew down to enter her bedroom. Brushing her hair behind her ear softly, he tapped her forehead, the bad dreams slowly shifting into peaceful ones and calming her down. He gazed at her, something twisting inside of him. “I don’t know what you’re doing to me….I don’t want to like it…” With a lingering press of his lips on her head, he flew back up to his original place.
Y/N had smiled in her sleep as she turned over, resting well at last.
~
While Y/N was happy in her life, Daishou was losing energy slowly. It shouldn’t be happening. The other guardian angels had lived through millenials of humans, protecting them. Why was he already getting weak? Was he not good enough for his job?
He flew down to Y/N for his daily checkup, but he found his flight wobbly, compared to yesterday’s. He got there safely, did his job and went back up to heaven. Going to his chambers, he slammed the door shut, leaning against it as he tried to catch his breath. Daishou tried to extend his wings, wincing through the whole process. He reached out for one of his wing feathers, pulling it out. He expected a white feather, but seeing as there was no pain, his expectations should not have been so high.
A black feather the color of coal appeared, disintegrating in his hand. Oh my God, no, this can’t be happening. No, this can’t be happening. I told myself I wouldn’t fall in love, why are my wings dying…?
He had fallen in love. Not with anyone, with Y/N L/N, the girl he had sworn to protect.
~
Something was wrong the very next day. Daishou could feel it and he had tried so hard not to strain his wings. However, it had involved Y/N so there was nothing more he could do other than go after her.
Stretching his almost dead wings out, he could cry at the sight of them but he didn’t. The feeling came back. She was in mortal peril, making him set off right away. As he sped along, trying to find her, he saw a car hurling itself towards her and she didn’t notice. She already looked at both sides of the streets so she thought she was safe.
“If there is one thing you cannot do as a guardian angel who may or may not be in love with the one to be protected, it is becoming the thing between their life and death. You may save them, but you will end up dying.”
That is what his superior told him when he had brought the question up. Daishou looked desperately at the car, trying to get it to stop and back at Y/N, who had no idea what was going on and back up at the heavens.
Would he risk his own immortal life for a simple human or would he live with that guilt for the rest of his life?
There’s no way I’m letting her die.
Daishou flew over to her, pushing her out of the car’s way and saving her. He tried to fly back up to the heavens in search of medical treatment. Surely there was a way to fix his state of being. He had underestimated how fast the procedure worked. Halfway up to the sky, one of his wings broke off, making him flap with only one and starting to fall to the floor.
His screams were something Y/N could feel and it brought a shiver up her spine. She didn’t know why, but she would never realize what had happened on the day that she narrowly escaped death. The person that truly loved her sacrificed himself for her.
As he lied on the floor, staring at the sky, his wings were stretched out, blacker than any night. He tried to reach out for the sky, a genuine smile on his face. No one could save him now. His last act had been saving her. Tears welled up in his eyes, something unfamiliar to him. He whispered, “As long as you’re alive…”
With those words, Daishou went limp and faded away moments later. No one, except the angels, would notice. He’d be another angel marked down as insubordinate and stubborn, a devoted human lover.
His last sacrifice, all for her.
I don’t know where I’m going, but as long as you’re safe and sound, I’ll be okay.
Pairings - Daishou, Oikawa, Kageyama, Tsukishima, Asahi, Sakusa and Tendou x gn!reader
Notes - this isn’t a request it came out of nowhere I was just thinking about it while walking my dog
Warnings - Angst, mentions of cheating and insults
Oikawa - it felt like you shared him with hundreds of girls. His fangirls went everywhere you did and he played into it so much. What was he getting from them that he wasn’t from you? What he called fan service, you called flirting and he couldn’t quite get that. You knew it was only a matter of time before you found one of these girls in your bed so you left.
Daishou - He was still in love with his ex. It was obvious to everyone but him. The way his eyes looked when someone mentioned her. You knew he still had most of their photos together saved in his phone but when you caught him looking at one of their anniversary photos, you knew it was time to leave.
Kageyama - It felt like you were dating a robot. You had to initiate everything. You asked him out, you kissed him first, you asked for cuddles. Tobio had passion for one thing and that was volleyball. You knew you would never fit properly into his life and that was made obvious by his black stare when you told him you were leaving.
Tendou - You didn’t want to go to Paris with him. Your entire life was in Japan, you couldn’t just leave that. All of your friends, your job and everything you loved was there. He got annoyed when you told him you couldn’t leave, like he was magically expecting you to be completely fine with such a big choice. You disappeared a week before he was due to leave, leaving only a note. He hasn’t seen you since.
Tsukishima - much like Kageyama, it was like you weren’t even in a relationship. In private, Kei could be touchy and sweet but it was like you were an inconvenience in front of others though. Every hand hold and hug was met with rolling eyes and limp arms - or even worse, insults. You were sick of feeling like the whole thing was one sided and the only response you got when you told him? A scoff. You were packed and gone within the hour.
Sakusa - Every little thing you did was met with judgement. Every glass you left on the side or dirt trekked through the house exploded into a fight. It got to the point where you just let him lecture you and blanked out. Even then, each scathing remark left you feeling like there was a knife in your side and you finally had enough when you heard him muttering ‘disgusting’ when he found a mug you had set down not even 10 minutes earlier. You couldn’t stay even if you tried.
Asahi - He was too anxious about your relationship. Every move you made was met with questions of what you were doing? Who are you with? Do you still love him? It got on your nerves that he couldn’t just listen when you told him how much you adored him. The last time it happened was when you went out with some friends and he was texting you the entire time, begging you for reassurance. You weren’t going to be with someone who didn’t trust you.
Hope you guys enjoyed me ripping your heart out and stamping on it mwah ly guys

he waters the flowers everyday.
they weren’t anything special, not really. they probably had a real name, but to you, to mika, and maybe even suguru, they were just three pieces of wildflowers. but he diligently waters them everyday of every morning. you don’t know if it’s a habit now, at this point. a ritual his body just knows to do, a ritual he can’t get out of.
you just know that after loving you all night, as soon as he wakes up, he’s unraveling from you. not just physically, but mentally. spiritually. now, you are nothing more than the girl from last night as he stretches, whistling, taking the glass water he keeps at his side table— along with a journal, his watch, wallet, and a picture of mika — and waters the same three wildflowers he picks up every three days to keep them fresh. you’ve already deduced came from the same spot that he first got them for her; a scenic episode that’s burned bright over his brain, scarring over with age but ever so present.
you’re in his sheets, still tangled, with the remnants of him and you— him, him, him! your mind screamed, urging you to do something, anything; leave, scream, argue, but you never do, you keep silent and watch. when you got sick of it, you pretend to sleep through it all, ashamed, angry, and hollow — still on you. in you.
he waters them everyday, diligently. like the boyfriend he was, the lover he will always be, and the husband he never became.
not for her at least. six feet under that she was, she was still here, wrought ever so tightly around his heart— a space never meant for you.
