"Welcome to the Theatre": Diary of a Broadway Baby

I'm pretty neutral on this one. After having been metaphorically face down on the floor of the theatre after Joanna Gleason's show the night before (in the same venue, different stage), I was just so underwhelmed by the writing and the acting here. Now, having been impressed by Mia Barron in a different show last season(?), I don't really think this one did her justice. The characters are fairly thin; an idealistic young man who gets seduced into doing espionage by a jaded (hot) middle-aged woman. And the plot doesn't seem to have much of a point. What are we exploring here? The expositional dialogue is further hampered by one actor being significantly quieter than the other, and I just don't think the direction knows what it's doing or saying. I just...I don't really care what happens or doesn't happen, and the ending tapers off without much satisfaction.

Verdict: Enjoyable, But Left No Lasting Impression
