Just curious if you saw the Ducktales episode The Phantom and the Sorcereress and what did you think of this incarceration of The Phantom Blot?

Sorry for the delay, I wish tumblr didn’t eat my notifications every time I get an ask 😒😤...  Anyway.

Yes, I have indeed watched the episode as soon as it was available and, hmm, how to put it nicely... I found myself almost indifferent to the character. Like, he doesn’t spark joy chief 🙅‍♀️✨

Oh, a lil disclaimer before we go any further: this is just my personal opinion based on both what I’ve seen in the episode and on the Blot version I am used to and I know best (i.e. the Italian one), so y’all’ve been warned.

I mean, design wise I don’t mind the whole medieval executioner outfit, it’s a bit unusual for him but, considering I got a weakness for this type of clothing style, it’s a change that I gladly welcome. It also seems to confirm my initial theory that the Blot has been turned into some kind of timeless entity fueled by his undying revenge or that he has found a way to survive the passage of time through some dark science or through the sole desire/obsession for revenge and his consequent eventual revenge-before-reason themed defeat since come on, I can def see the writers aiming for this type of conclusion for him. Also I see what they’ve done with the color scheme but of all the things that they could’ve taken from Epic Mickey I wished they went for something more... interesting or at least less predictable I guess? Unless again, they’re saving a possible monstrous transformation for the future, I doubt it tbh but who knows .

As for his character, eh, I don't feel like saying I approve of him. Of course, the fault automatically falls on the fact that I grew up with a completely different version and if we want more complete from the American one and therefore my standard is at a very, very high level, and for this I don’t find this interpretation interesting, at least for now. Also I must say that I was hoping for something other than yet another villain based on revenge repeated over the years caused by the so called genocide backfire.

Sure, maybe his character arc will take an interesting turn as the saga progresses although I still find it inconceivable how a character of his caliber ended up being an undercover mascot for a restaurant chain and consequently I don’t have v much hope about it but again it’s still too early to be able to give a definitive judgment on this version as, in fact, we’ve had nothing but a taste of what this character represents.

And if on the one hand I’m happy that the fans of the American PB had something to celebrate, on the other hand for now I feel equally calm in saying that this is not my PB and therefore I don’t intend to participate in the hype/discourse that already is infesting the social networks where the DT fandom is most active. Obviously I will still keep an eye on how his character will evolve but for the moment I feel I can safely stay on the sidelines to take care of my personal Blot theme park without worrying about the rest.

Tl;Dr: He ain’t my man, but I’ll be monitoring his evolution nonetheless with the same enthusiasm of a feral scientist discovering a new specimen lmao

I got a drabble idea since I love your work. Sounds silly and a bit cute in concept. It's about Horace and Clarabelle both owning up to the fact that they both have a dynamic of saving each other. I know it sounds silly.

Oooh, been a while since I’ve done them. let’s see! Basing them on the comics!

As much as Horace would brag about hisbravery and cleverness, he actually would have preferred to stay outof the mad-cap situations Mickey always managed to bring home. Butover the years he had reluctantly gotten used to weekly adventures,as did the rest of Mickey's friends, Clarabelle included.

So he wasn't terribly surprised to findhimself in this situation – tied up in a locked room, waiting forthe inevitable rescue. In fact, he was so used to it that he used thetime to go over the chores he needed to finish when he got home. Hetraced little outlines of his house in the dust using his shoe, onlystopping then door opened, and his sweetheart raced on in.

“Oh, Horace!” She cried, ducking toher knees and holding his face. “Are you all right? They didn'thurt you too badly, did they?”

“Aw, quit your fussin',” It was anautomatic defensive, when they both clearly knew he enjoyed every bitof it. “I'm made of stronger stuff than that! Could use some helpgettin' out of these ropes, though.”

“Don't you worry none, I'll have youout of here in a jiffy.” She got to work on the knots around hiswrist, with Horace watching.

After a moment, he frowned. “You'redoin' it all wrong, Clarabelle!”

She lifted her head, startled andinsulted. “Excuse me?”

“I said you're doin' it all wrong!You gotta pull through over there first, then you do the loops.”

“I know how to undo a knot, Horace!I've done this plenty of times!”

“So do I! Shoot, these are the sameexact knots you were in just last week.”

Clarabelle paused, eyebrow raised. “...Huh. So they are.” She clicked her tongue, taking this observationwith a few others. “Is it just me, or are we always rescuing eachother?”

Horace tilted his head back, givingthis accurate assumption a thought. “Mmm. You might be right aboutthat. Week before that, you got my back. Week before that, I gotyours. Seems to be a pattern.”

“Is that a complaint?” her fingerswere on the rope, not moving.

“Didn't say it was. In fact, I don'tthink I'd have it any other way.” Gosh, that felt embarrassing toadmit. He looked away, trying to pretend there wasn't a hint of pinkon his cheeks. He hoped she wouldn't make him elaborate. Some thingsshould just be understood, that's the way he felt.

Thankfully, she didn't inquire anyfurther, and just kissed his cheek. Although that made have been todistract him from more whining about her knotwork, since that didtake several more minutes.
