imagine a modern au where bilbo and frodo have been living in an apartment for a year or so and thorin ends up moving in across the hall from them and for a few weeks or so they don't even talk or anything but they all end up running into each other and bc thorin has long hair he wears in a ponytail and a beard frodo just looks at him and goes "are you a hippie" and bilbo is like "fRODO NO"

HOGMOGMFDF ok i do have a weakness for modern!thorin with the long hair and oh m y god frodo one day asking thorin

CAUSE BILBO’S PROBABLY SAID SOMETHING TO FRODO LIKE YOU KNOW TALKING TO YOURSELF ‘wow some people…that hair is so ridiculous it makes him look like a hippie what the heck….though i suppose he’d probably look pretty nice if he cut it all off and maybe trimmed his beard a bit………’ and it’s like bilbo doesn’t even realize frodo’s listening to him mumbling under his breath so the next time they run into thorin frodo immediately strikes up a conversation with thorin like ‘why is your hair so long? are you a hippie like what uncle bilbo said? he thought you’d look nice if you cut but i think it looks cool’ 

AND BILBO’S HARDCORE PANICKING LIKE ‘FRODO PLEASE STOP TALKING NOW.’ AND THORIN’S LOOKING AT THEM LIKE ???? but also ‘so you think i’d look attractive without all the hair?' 

and bilbo’s like ‘nOW HOLD ON. I NEVER ONCE SAID THE WORD “ATTRACTIVE” YOU’RE JUST MAKING THINGS UP’ AND HE’S BLUSHING

((omg part of me thinks it’d be hysterical if the next time bilbo sees thorin his hair is cut and beard trimmed up and bilbo doeSN’T EVEN RECOGNIZE  THORIN AT FIRST AND THEN THORIN CATCHES HIS EYE AND SAYS HELLO AND BILBO’S FLOORED LIKE ‘WHY THE FUCK DID YOU CUT ALL YOUR HAIR????? I DIDN’T ACTUALLY—?? OH GOD.’ and thorin assuring him he can always grow it back out but his sister had been bugging him for years about it so what a perfect time to go ahead and cut it all off and look respectable for once and bilbo’s just sitting there stammering like ‘oh fuck what is happening’ because hot damn he was right thorin looks hella attractive with his hair all cut and trimmed….not that he was ever bad looking before but now……..))
