Authentic Jeet Kune Do in Portland,
Looking for any awesome place to train in Portland with some awesome people who pack the place? Look no further than River City Warriors. If you’ve struggled to find Jeet Kune Do in Portland, you’re not alone, we hear that all the time. Besides one other satellite class there is NO other JKD school in town.
Sounds weird doesn’t it? What about your web searches? I swear I saw JKD and Kali in those. Surely there’s other JKD in Portland? Nope. Nada. Zip. Don’t buy it for a second. Here’s the thing, there’s a lot of frauds out there in the martial arts world. It’s strange to me too, because Martial Artists always called to live up to a high degree of integrity and moral fiber. There’s schools around Portland teaching Jeet Kune Do with NO paperwork, NO history of training, and NO truth in the story they’re telling. What you’ll see out there is everyone makes claims to train with Dan Inosanto, Bruce Lee’s protege and my personal hero. Guro Dan has gone on for the last 40 plus years since his teacher’s passing and completely dedicated his life to training and teaching. There’s people out there that want to cherry pick from that legacy. They want to be part of the lineage, to impress others, but they don’t want to put the REAL time in to train. So if you’re going to study JKD, something arguably hard to find, make sure the Jeet Kune Do you’ve found is the genuine article.
One place I’ve visited recently claims to be part of a JKD “sub group” that has existed since the 80′s. When I looked into their background I found out that their association was limited to their ONE SINGLE LOCATION. That’s not an association, that’s a private school of who knows what? That would be like if our BJJ program was invented by me, and I didn’t train with Pedro Sauer or Anibal Lobo. The Pedro Sauer association we belong to is over 300 schools deep. You can literally take your rank and progress and move to anywhere and continue with the same material.
At RCW we take our pursuit of Jeet Kune Do seriously. We make sure it’s functional with our students who train in BJJ and Muay Thai. Our instructors take regular ongoing classes just for them and have traveled down to train in L.A. at the Inosanto Academy. (Pictured above) We also have the credentials to prove our connection. A 30 year veteran under Dan Inosanto helms our program, Chris Clark, and you can find him on the short list of instructors at The Inosanto website. In addition we also feature the ONLY Oregon based Sayoc Kali program around.
You can be sure if you begin your Jeet Kune Do journey in Portland at River City Warriors you’ll be getting the real deal.
