Vegg: So, that would mean... you!...

The Master groans, then laughs.

The Master: yes?

Vegg: You have fought in a greater war than I could ever dream of!

The Master: Ah, yes, my people... so righteous, so unyielding, so important! They burned down the very foundations of the universe, rather than let it spin on without them, because nothing else, and no one else, could ever be so very important.

The Master: of course that's your takeaway from all this.

Vegg: why did you not tell me this from the start?! You must speak to me of the glory--

The Master: no!

Vegg: but why not?!

The Master: just drop it.

Vegg: Master! Your people triumphed against (?) enemies! Is that not a tale worthy to be told?

The Master (shakily): you know, Vegg, I can still hear the screams sometimes. A billion voices calling out through a billion minds. It echoes and echoes and echoes and echoes through time and lifetimes, so many lifetimes, tangled up inside every head I've ever had--all a part of their grand design, of course.

The Master: and that's the best part, isn't it? They do all of this, but somehow, I'm the monster!

He laughs.

Vegg: but... the War!

The Master: Nothing to tell.

Vegg: were you not there?
