How did you get into dancing? Do you recommend it to others? Are there certain types of people that should avoid dancing?

Long story short, 17 year old me stumbled upon the world of SW and outright decided I wanted to try stripping one day. At 20 I decided to say fuck it and go for it, moved halfway across the U.S. and went to an audition.

I don’t recommend it to anyone, but I also don’t say that they shouldn’t. I love dancing but the industry is fucking BRUTAL. I’ve watched good girls become felons from drug charges and a plethora of other things. It really depends on if you WANT to dance and if you have the skill set. There’s a massive skill set needed to dance, if you don’t have it or learn how to build it you won’t make anything.

Absolutely, In no particular order, if you have these you might want to reconsider:

Little to no self esteem

Money management problems

Past drug addiction issues

Past alcoholism

Addictive tendencies

Fear of rejection

Little to no stamina

Low pain tolerance

No rhythm

No variety in music taste

No social skills

Little concept of being seductive

Can’t handle being touched

Don’t like being judged

Have bad hygiene skills

This is a small list of things you may want to consider going in. You have 100% certainty to be judged for your body, skin, teeth, hair, voice etc. You WILL need money management skills (send an ask if you want a list of mistakes and advice). And you absolutely cannot avoid being rejected, laughed at, touched in some cases, bruises, scraped, and in pain.

Hi Annie! I am starting Pointe Class in the fall and I was wondering what shoes you currently use.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS ON STARTING POINTE! I am currently wearing Bloch European Balances. I have two different shoes on each foot. (My left foot is slightly larger, the extra mm makes a huge difference for me personally when it comes to the width of my shoe).

Russian Pointe Polette - Discontinued 

Russian Pointe Luminas 

Grishko Novas

REMEMBER: THESE HAPPEN TO BE MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WHILE DOING POINTE. IT IS UP TO BOTH YOU, THE SHOE FITTER, AND YOUR DANCE TEACHER TO FIND THE RIGHT SHOE FOR YOU. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS OR STATE IF SOMETHING FEELS OFF. THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN DANCING IN A SHOES THAT DOES NOT FIT PROPERLY. What is your favorite style of ballet?

Classical. I learned the Balanchine technique throughout my dancing years. But damn, I am obsessed with the Vaganova method. The lines are stunning and the beauty and grace makes me weep.

Do you have any advice to get on my box in second position? I'm in my 2nd year of doing pointe (30 mins once a week is all my studio offers at this level) and I can get over my box easily in first and fifth but in second I can only get 1 foot over my box & 1 foot half on it.

Uhg I had THE toughest time getting over my box period.

My right foot wasn’t as flexible and my left, so I had to extra break in my right shoe to help me get over the box. I also stretched the top of my foot to help make it more flexible. Like sit with your legs straight out with your feet pointed and have someone (who’s experienced!!! So a teacher really) push your toes to the ground- while you’re keeping your legs straight. I bought this overall expensive contraption that did it for me, and it really wasn’t worth the money because I could’ve done this for free.Now your toes won’t be able to touch the ground at first probably, so don’t be disheartened! Just keep doing it maybe once every other day after your feet are all warmed up.
