Gary actually left Hatchetfield to go to law school, which is where he met Daniel's other parent. It was only when Daniel was 10 and Gary and his spouse divorced, that he moved back to Hatchetfield.
Gary was buying a Wiggly for Daniel. If he actually showed it to him, Daniel would've been like "What the hell is that thing. I'm 14." Gary was not effected by Wiggly's spell, he legitimately thought it was something that a 14 year old boy would want.
Daniel has been rollerskaking since he was 8. Gary was extremely hesitant at first because he didn't want Daniel to fall and get hurt. It took a couple years before he was confident that Daniel was safe on skates without constant supervision.
Daniel had the fun experience of his parent starting a new relationship when he was 14. He isn't really sure how to feel about Barry at first, but he warms up to him pretty quick.
Daniel taught Gary and Barry how to skate, and him and Barry like to do races on the street they live on. Barry only started letting Daniel win sometimes when Gary asked him to.
Daniel does the breath holding thing when he's anxious, sometimes not on purpose. He's tried to explain the whole "stopping time" thing to Gary and while Gary doesn't fully believe him, he is very supportive and validating of Daniel's feelings and anxiety.
