Women of Resistance & The Dusty Rebel | Artbook MoMA PS1

Join the coeditors of Women of Resistance, Danielle Barnhart & Iris Mahan in conversation with photographer, Daniel Albanese aka TheDustyRebel (whose photos of street art and protest are featured as the section breaks of the anthology) and special guest, street artist, Jilly Ballistic.

The conversation will focus on poetry & art as protest; why women/femme/queer artists take to the streets, and how this resistance shapes art and literary worlds (and the artists themselves). Panelists will explore how we reach our audiences despite issues of gender and myriad intersecting identities that define us as "other," and the beauty & communities created from resistance.

This will be a multimedia event, with projections of the photographer's work, and performances by contributing poets. This event is free and open to the public from 3 to 5pm.

Review: Women Of Resistance: Poems For A New Feminism edited by Danielle Barnhart and Iris Mahan. 

This is a great selection of excellent poetry. With poetry coming from women of all different backgrounds, ths book encompasses light hearted moments and incredibly hard-hitting poetic moments that make you take a breath, this book has the perfect title for what it holds inside. 

Covering a wide variety of topics from the power of the pantsuit to surviving trauma, this book covers a wide range of topics from own voices that truly feels like a fightback against the world these women inhabit. Poems such as ‘The March’ by Achy Obejas for me really represent that feeling and it makes for such inspiring and deeply motivating poetry collection for a better world. 

A heavy read in it’s moments, Women Of Resistance is a collection of honest and refreshing poetry that makes you think and sometimes makes you smile, and if you need some feminist motivation to take on the world, this is the book for you.
